Huge thank you to everyone who attended The Marketing Meetup on Wednesday. It was a great turnout, and so lovely to see all of your faces in Norwich University of the Arts wonderful space. It was a pleasure to hear from two inspiring founders, Richard Finney from Captain Fawcett and Bryn Frere-Smith from Blue Bear Coffee Co. - thank you for your valuable insights on building your brands. Bryn's story and mission for the business is evident in everything they do - from the brand identity alone, the customer is invited to ask questions about the bear and hear about the important work being done to eradicate slavery. Whereas Richie has crafted Captain Fawcett - the brand and the character - to portray a certain, desirable aesthetic, their marketing encourages customers to buy into the image and the products in a compelling way. Both are stories, but both evoke different sentiments from the customer. Did you find it as thought-provoking as we did? See you at the next one!

Our Head of Marketing Services, Jess Ford, attended this year's annual Brandland Conference last week, where the theme was 'Doing Differently'. A really insightful set of talks and panels, Jess came back with a head and notepad full of takeouts and thoughts! First, Jago Cooper, Director of the Sainsbury Centre, shared with us how the original values of the founders have empowered him and his team to 'do differently' to other museums and galleries, playing a part in social change by curating collections that help visitors activate their own thoughts and ideas around key cultural questions. We also heard about how content creation is now built into programme planning by the Centre at the earliest stage, enabling the collections and pieces to speak for themselves (art is very much alive, don't you know!). Continuing the theme, we were then treated to two fascinating panels. The first was on the use of AI in creative and design, concluding that it can be fantastic way of exploring and pushing boundaries, however as a tool it's ultimately what we decide to use it for that matters. The second panel was around normalising consuming 'differently'; responding to and driving changing consumer habits and preferences in areas such as free-from and luxury frozen foods, and sustainable product development in fashion. Closing the day with a keynote presentation from The HEINEKEN Company that complemented the 'different' consumption angle by highlighting the brand's recent push into the 0.0% alcohol market, navigating traditional advertising rules around alcohol promotion by landing a product placement spot on Coronation Street and Emmerdale for the no-alcohol product. It was also exciting to hear about the recent Jarrolds rebrand, a project that won The Click a D&AD Award for their work, and to learn about the various research projects being undertaken by three students on the University of East Anglia postgraduate branding course. A big thanks to Robert Jones and Brandland for putting together such an amazing programme of speakers and panellists, and for continuing to remind us what makes Norwich such a great hub of creativity and brands. #Brandland #Norwich #Marketing #MarketingConference

On Monday, as part of Co.next - Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, our Head of Marketing Services, Jess, spoke with some young professionals about a range of topics. From career advice, to planning out marketing calendars, to the best ways to capture content from busy (and reluctant!) colleagues. Jess really enjoyed her time with each of them, and the feedback from the mentees was very positive, with all of them taking away a to-do list of ideas and actions. Although some beanbag relaxation and chocolate was needed to recharge afterwards. Thank you to Caroline at Co.Next for asking us to participate! 👏 #CoNext #MarketingAdvice #MentorMonday #MarketingMentor #Marketing #Yawn
