The climate and nature crises are the most urgent challenges of our time. Fight the crises by investing in nature.

About us

Wilder Carbon is developing as the mechanism for locking up additional carbon through restoration of native habitat via reinstatement of natural processes. We aim to: Become the benchmark for native habitat restoration projects that address the Nature and Climate Crisis at the same time. Fill a void for multi-habitat schemes where using multiple habitat codes would be over-complex. Be applicable at all scales from national to regional; from Local Authority landholdings to farms, rewilding projects, protected areas, and urban greenspace. Change the landscape of green investment and leverage financing to restore nature at a previously impossible scale in a truly defensible manner.

We were delighted to be asked to represent the view of a voluntary carbon standard at this ground breaking report launch with Arup and BusinessLDN. Our very own Sarah Brownlie (nee Thienel) did a superb job at explaining some of the key challenges reflected in the Arup/Business LDN report that prospective buyers are wrestling with, in terms of volatile pricing, proving integrity, the need for transparency and the desire to support projects that will deliver benefits for climate, nature and society. Wilder Carbon provides a solution that can address all of these concerns. Nature based solutions take time to deliver so we need to be investing now in order to make the substantial difference we all want to make. We look forward to continuing to work with Arup to help make this UK Collective Offsetting Fund work in practice. Thanks again to Stephen Thompson, Ben Smith, Muniya Barua, Ioanna Mytilinaiou and other panellists Robert Jenkins and Matt Prescott.

Together with BusinessLDN we’re calling for businesses across the UK to team up to aggregate their current and future purchasing power and collectively offset residual emissions. This morning, we held an event to launch this new report, making recommendations for UK businesses to work collectively to transition to a net zero carbon future and restore our natural environment. A new fund could spur investment into high quality offsetting schemes that tackle climate change and deliver wider benefits, such as enhancing biodiversity, nature recovery and social value. 99% of carbon offsetting purchases by UK organisations are currently made overseas, amounting to £150-200m annually. What if, collectively, we could move this investment back into the UK? Thanks to our contributors to this event: Muniua Barua at BusinessLDN, Stephen Thompson at Arup, Ben Smith at Arup, Sarah Brownlie (nee Thienel) at Wilder Carbon, Robert Jenkins at Delancey and Matt Prescott at Heathrow. Thanks also to BusinessLDN for your support with this report and specifically thanks to Ioanna Mytilinaiou. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has commissioned BSI in to develop the "Nature Market Principles" which provide an emerging articulation of the principles for how nature markets should function to ensure high integrity.    With consultation of these principles currently open, we are sharing our thoughts, recommendations and how Wilder Carbon stack up.    We have requested early assessment by BSI’s recommended conformity assessment bodies, of Wilder Carbon against the BSI Flex 701 Nature Markets Principles to further demonstrate our high integrity approach.     But for now, read more about how we align and watch this space for further news as we pursue assessment under international standards.  🔗 https://lnkd.in/gNB__bcB

We're pleased to announce a new Approved Buyer! 🥳 Welcome to WHEB 🌍WHEB say: "Our mission is to ‘advance sustainability and create prosperity through positive impact investments.’ This applies to our investment activities as well as to our own operations. During 2023 we conducted thorough research into offsetting providers in order to find the most credible partner with whom which we could develop a long-standing partnership. This lead us to WTBCN and Wilder Carbon. We were impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of the team, as well as the high-quality projects offered. We also appreciate that Wilder Carbon are selective of those who can purchase the offsets, choosing to partner only with those companies who share the same purpose."

And today we're welcoming another new Approved Buyer! Thank you to 2150 for joining us 🥳 2150 is a venture capital firm investing in technology companies that seek to sustainably reimagine and reshape cities and the industries that power them. 2150 uses an internal carbon tax to acknowledge the impacts of their operational emissions. They use a common price of €100 per tonne of CO₂e. The proceeds are then used to further develop assets and approaches to remove emissions while delivering further environmental benefits. Wilder Carbon and its project partners will work with those who want to fund projects from a purely Environmental, Social and Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility or risk-related perspective on the basis of explicitly and publicly separating this from their carbon reduction strategies. Kent Wildlife Trust, as Project Deliverers have been setting up the infrastructure needed to start the process of rewilding which will deliver soil carbon sequestration and biodiversity uplift. You can find out more from Simon Bateman-Brown, Kent Wildlife Trust's Head of Land Management in the update video below. 👇 We're also celebrating a year since validation of Honeygar in Somerset. Keep your eyes peeled for an update on this project later in the year.
