The world’s largest celebration for African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean-heritage LGBTQ+ people.
About us
UK Black Pride is Europe’s largest celebration for LGBTQ+ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent. We produce an annual celebration during pride month, as well as a variety of activities throughout the year in and around the UK, which also promote and advocate for the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual health and wellbeing of the communities we represent. UK Black Pride is a safe space to celebrate diverse sexualities, gender identities, cultures, gender expressions and backgrounds and we foster, represent and celebrate Black LGBTQ and QTIPOC culture through education, the arts, cultural events and advocacy. Importantly, UK Black Pride promotes unity and cooperation among LGBTQ+ people of diasporic communities in the UK, as well as their friends and families. In the words of Audre Lorde: “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives. Our struggles are particular, but we are not alone.”

This morning, I had the privilege of sitting down with UK Black Pride Executive Director and Co-Founder Phyll Opoku-Gyimah and it was nothing short of transformative. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I can confidently say that our conversation was a beautiful blend of reflection, innovation and forward-thinking planning. What struck me most was her unwavering passion and commitment. I am in awe of her profound love for the LGBTQI community, people, and the pursuit of social justice. It's not every day you come across a leader whose heart beats in rhythm with the very essence of the cause she champions. As we embark on this new chapter, I am genuinely excited about the future of UK Black Pride under her continued leadership. Her vision, paired with her dedication, promises to usher in an era of growth, inclusivity, and meaningful impact. Here's to progress and making a lasting difference together. UK Black Pride and its partners bring forward its 2023 event to Saturday, 19 August UK Black Pride will host its annual pride event – and 18th birthday celebration – on Saturday, 19 August. The event was originally planned for Sunday, 20 August, and the decision to bring the event forward by one day was taken after the Football Association announced a change to its scheduling, meaning a match between West Ham United F.C and Chelsea F.C will be taking place on Sunday, 20 August in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The safety, wellbeing and happiness of our UK Black Pride communities is paramount, and we recognise the potentially dangerous implications of having Black and brown LGBTQIA+ people sharing a space with a football fandom with a long history of racism, homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia. The decision to bring the event forward to Saturday, 19 August is one that helps us ensure we can put on a safe and celebratory event for our communities. We appreciate that many had held Sunday, 20 August in their calendar as a moment to reconnect with their chosen family and celebrate themselves authentically. The decision to have the annual event take place on Saturday, 19 August now means the wider Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will feel safer and more open for our community - from both a capacity control and cultural standpoint. We look forward to celebrating UK Black Pride with you on Saturday, 19 August 2023. UK Black Pride 2023 Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Saturday, 19 August 2023 12 – 8pm
