We’re delighted to be receiving a Gold Reward of £1000 from the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) for our engagement in intramural football on BUCS Play. In 2023/24 we had 250 unique team players involved which has resulted in us achieving the highest reward. We can now use this funding towards further development of football within our social sport offering. We’re excited to explore how we can utilise the funding towards FA Coaching and FA Referee qualifications for our students, as well as any equipment to improve the standard of intramural football here at UCLan Students’ Union. Our recreational and social sport offer continues to grow year on year thanks to the dedication and passion of the staff and volunteers who help us run it!

We're proud that the majority of our workforce are students ✊ Alongside our 30 full-time staff and 4 Elected Officers, it's the powerful team of over 60 students who help us run the organisation. They welcome everyone to our Help Desk, sold over 40,000 coffees and made 1200 pizzas last year, help students access advice, dance on our TikToks, bring our events to life and MORE! I am incredibly happy to receive my Bronze and Silver Volunteering Award certificates from UCLan Students' Union today. To call my volunteering experience with the Students' Union empowering would be a huge disservice to the union, it is beyond words. Within my 8 months as the elected Representative of Transgender Students, I have managed to run events, make speeches, design policy, and meet hundreds of amazing people and, that doesn't even include the experience of my other roles within the union. 2023/4 has already been a huge academic year of progress and it's only going to get crazier from here!

Last week, I wrapped up January by attending RepCon, an all-day conference organised by the amazing UClan Student Union for Academic Representatives and Student Council members. The theme of the conference was "Students Unite for Change," and I must say, it was an incredible experience that exceeded all my expectations. One of the highlights of the conference was the inspiring red table talk, where panel members discussed various topics, including what success truly looks like for students. Their insights and advice resonated with me, and I will carry them with me throughout my journey as a Course Representative. I also had the opportunity to participate in highly valuable workshops. One workshop, in particular, focused on the importance of building strong networks and how volunteering can become a golden asset on one's CV. I gained invaluable knowledge and skills that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future endeavors. To end the day on a creative note, we even attempted to make origami to donate to the student union for a meaningful cause they are working on. It was a fun and fulfilling activity that brought us together. Additionally, there was a lively quiz that taught me fascinating facts about UClan and the student union that I wasn't aware of before. Attending RepCon was the perfect way to conclude the first month of the year, and I am immensely grateful to everyone involved in organising this outstanding conference. Thank you for creating such a wonderful and impactful event that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on all the attendees. Very excited to be heading to Preston this morning for UCLan Students' Union’s student rep conference. Looking forward to presenting my session on why student reps matter. I’ll be focusing on how we move beyond empowering reps solely by telling them their voices matter (though that’s important). Instead, exploring how showing reps how regulations can be used to help them make judgements about the quality of their courses and overall experience. After all, a chance to offer feedback on your course is in the regulatory requirements.
