We experienced the exhilarating highs of $600M+ in term sheets. And also experienced the sweaty intensity of closing 6 financing events. Here are 5 tips I wish I knew earlier about fundraising and capital efficient growth: 1️⃣ Cash Flow Lowers Dilution Cash flow gave us immense freedom and flexibility to slow down our equity raises. We skipped rounds to decrease dilution and now generate more cash per year than we’ve raised in equity. 2️⃣ Debt Also Lowers Dilution Private credit can be a powerful tool. We accessed over $150M and gave up less than 10% of our business to do so. Just note: interest payments will put a strain on your monthly cash flow so make sure you use this responsibly. 3️⃣ Fundraising Requires Immense Resilience Be prepared to handle rejections (potentially a lot) and adapt your pitch based on investor feedback. Pro tip: fundraising becomes much easier when you generate tons of cash. 4️⃣ Every Decision Has An ROI CAC generates LTV; software development has a useful life; and M&A generates cash flow over its lifetime. Other than servicing costs and G&A, everything has an ROI. 5️⃣ Leverage Non-Cash Expenses to Compound FCF Real estate investors probably understand this best. Compound non-cash expenses (i.e. amortization) to lower tax payments and boost free cash flow. Interested in digging deeper on this topic? Comment your questions below! Threecolts just turned three 🎉 In our first three years, we've raised $200M across equity and debt financing, achieved positive free cash flow, and welcomed hundreds of industry titans like J&J, Keurig Dr. Pepper, Samsung, and L'Oreal as customers. We're on track to blow through the coveted $100M ARR club within four years, becoming one of the top 10 fastest-growing tech companies to achieve this milestone. So, how did we get here? Here are five (5) key things that fueled our growth: 1 - Right Decisions, Not Popularity Contests: Leading requires tough decisions. We don’t drag out difficult decisions, we prioritize honest feedback, and we promote people with high decision accuracy. 2 - Laser Focus Wins: Ideas are a dime a dozen (investors, customers, team), but impactful results come from ruthless prioritization.
