❓ WILL THE REAL STARMER NOW STAND UP?   Before Labour's 1997 UK election victory, Tony Blair was compared to, "a man carrying a priceless Ming vase across a highly polished floor". It was a strategy with realism at its heart: do not scare the electorate, or give fuel to a Conservative-leaning press.   New UK PM Keir Starmer has faced similar criticisms. "Who is he?" many asked, "and what does he stand for?" 👀 We will now get to see for ourselves.   Already, there have been announcements that would have garnered negative headlines pre-election. The de-facto ban on onshore wind farms has been removed, planned housebuilding will create more homes than currently exist in the whole of Greater Manchester, and in James Timpson, he has put a radical reformer in charge of prisons.   But the size of his victory gives him the chance to go further. This could be the most radical government the UK has seen since 1945. Challenging times call for radical solutions, and there is no better time than now. Radical Realist will be keeping a close, hopeful eye on the new government's choices, and this week's news gives a summary of the headlines for week one.    And for an insight on how British governments have run in the recent past, we were joined by Rory Stewart, a guest at The Conduit this week who described Parliament as like, "a boarding school where all the nice boys have been killed off by scarlet fever". 💡 To learn more about this momentous week for Britain, subscribe to Radical Realist - ways to change the world, every week: https://lnkd.in/e3aDArmB #TheConduit #RadicalRealist
