Private Members Club in the Highlands of Scotland

About us

In a secluded corner of Scotland's eastern highlands, on the shores of the Dornoch Firth, sits Skibo Castle, home to one of the world's most prestigious private clubs. Skibo's name is originally Norse, meaning 'Fairyland of Peace', and such is the allure of the landscape that it drew one of the world's leading 19th-century industrialists, Andrew Carnegie, to build a castle here on the site of an ancient Viking fort. Skibo Castle and its five-star facilities can now be yours to enjoy with membership to the eponymous Carnegie Club.

  • 🚀 Scottish Apprenticeship Recap with Lewis Duncan 🚀 Thank you to everyone who followed along with us these last few days for Scottish Apprenticeship Week! We hope you enjoyed hearing from our amazing apprentices and trainees and learning a little bit about their stories. We wanted to round off the week with some words from Lewis Duncan, a Greenkeeping Apprentice at The Carnegie Club. He has had a really positive experience with us since he began his training, and between his appreciation for golf and interest in the trade he has found it to be a great fit so far. We hope that this week gave everyone a bit more insight into apprenticeships in Scotland, and hopefully inspired someone looking into a potential opportunity to go for it! 🌟 #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • ✨🚀 Scottish Apprenticeship Week Day 5: Calum Ross 🚀✨ And now for our second Apprentice Stonemason! Calum Ross joined us back in 2023 so he is still quite new, but between college and hands-on experience in our Stonemasonry department he has picked up a great deal. Calum has a deep appreciation for the artistry of stonemasonry and is fascinated by the intricate shapes that can be created through hand carving. The results produced by this highly technical work are visual evidence of the incredible value of this craft. Be sure to read below for some valuable advice he has to share with any potential apprentices! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • 🌠Scottish Apprenticeship Week Day 5 – Amberlie McKeown 🌠 Amberlie McKeown’s experience at The Carnegie Club so far testifies to the incredible flexibility that a traineeship offers – it doesn’t have to mean starting from square one!  Amberlie is our second Trainee Spa Therapist, and she came in with a great deal of background experience in wellness and spa treatments, having run her own private practice before joining our team. 🛀 Despite the success she found in self-employment, she felt that the job security and development opportunities that come with a traineeship like this one were unbeatable, and has found taking the leap over to Skibo to be a risk that was well-worth taking! Amberlie has absolutely loved her experience so far and had a lot of interesting things to say about it. Watch the video below to learn more, and we’ll be with you later with more Scottish Apprenticeship Week content! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • ⭐Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024: Duart Grant⭐ The Carnegie Club proudly boasts its incredibly talented in-house Stonemasonry Team, which has had two new additions in 2023 in the form of apprentices! Duart Grant has been with us since November 2023 and is off to a great start. He is spending his first year learning from our Head Stonemason before heading off to college, where he will pick up some more technical skills. In the meantime, though, he is learning from the best and working on some amazing projects that are helping us keep a valuable, heritage craft alive. #scotappweek24  #skillsgeneration  #apprenticeships

  • 🌟 Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024: Dale Mavers 🌟 We love to celebrate the incredible variety of backgrounds that have brought our staff to The Carnegie Club, from those straight out of school to those, as in Dale Maver's case, who have spent years in an entirely different profession! Read on as Dale tells the incredible story of how he risked his management role in the retail industry to start afresh as a Greenkeeping Apprentice at Skibo, a decision he is thankful for every day that he spends on The Carnegie Links – and we are thankful to have him on our team, too! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • 🎉 It's Scottish Apprenticeship Week Day 4! 🎉 Callum Gunn is a Greenkeeper at The Carnegie Club, here since 2018 when he started out as an apprentice. He knew from the start that city life wasn’t for him after a short stint in Edinburgh, and now spends his days enjoying the fresh air and gorgeous, wide open spaces of The Carnegie Links.🌳🌳 Not everyone needs to be constantly focused on climbing the ladder. When asked about his plans further afield, Callum replies: “I’m just taking it day by day, I really enjoy my time here. I’m not much of a planner, but as long as I’m learning, enjoying myself and working hard each day, then I can go home happy!” Well put Callum! We’ll catch you later with some more Apprenticeship Week interviews, keep your eyes peeled! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • 🎇Scottish Apprenticeship Week Day 3: Hear from a Former Apprentice!🎇   At The Carnegie Club, it's not just about our apprentices' wellbeing, but also about what happens after they finish their training. We like to ensure that our apprentices are here to stay, and part of that means producing a happy and healthy environment for employees to thrive, no matter how high up they are in the company.    Andrea Sozio is a former Greenkeeping Apprentice turned First Assistant Greenkeeper on our links course. He only intended to stay at Skibo for the duration of his two-year apprenticeship, but fell in love with our course and our people and the rest is history.    His story speaks to the importance of cultivating a good environment in the workplace, but for the Greenkeeping Department a lot of this comes down to the spectacular natural landscape that we are so lucky to have here in the Highlands.🌿🌳   Watch the video below to learn more about Andrea and greenkeeping at Skibo, and be sure to follow along this week because we have many more team members to hear from! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships

  • 💫 Welcome to Day 2 of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024! 💫   Today we are hearing from Karly Ferguson, our Trainee Spa Therapist who started at The Carnegie Club just one month ago. Choosing to go for an apprenticeship can be a tough decision, and Karly says that it's easy to overthink it. When we ask her if she has any advice for potential apprentices, she says: "Just go with your gut feeling -- if you think it’s right, just go for it. Friends and family, they’ll support you regardless so go with your gut feeling!" When Karly saw this opportunity at Skibo pop up not long ago, she did just that -- and never looked back. When she started she had no background in spa therapy, but she has learned a great deal in her time at The Carnegie Club so far and is excited to learn some more technical skills in college this month. Watch the video below to learn more about Karly's experience in the Skibo Spa, and follow along with us this week to hear from more of our apprentices from other departments! #scotappweek24 #skillsgeneration #apprenticeships
