Pets change lives We change theirs

About us

We are a charity that provides specialist care, services, and support for pets and people throughout their life together. We cherish the profound bond between pets and their owners, recognising the remarkable difference they make in each other's lives. Our work is multifaceted, addressing a range of pet needs: Rehoming & Fostering: We care for and match homeless cats, dogs, horses, and small pets with loving families across the UK, ensuring each pet finds the right home. Veterinary: Our four animal hospitals provide care for sick and injured pets when their families cannot afford private treatment. Behaviour: We assist pets with behavioral issues upon arrival and offer ongoing support for rehomed pets. Our leading charity status in pet behaviour enables us to educate others through talks, social media, and training materials. Education: We offer talks and advice to support people in caring for their pets, both now and in the future. Pet Loss: Our Pet Loss Support Service is available 365 days a year to help those coping with the loss of a pet, with trained volunteers providing support. We recognise the importance of pet owners and work hard to improve their lives too. By supporting pet owners, we believe we can create happier and healthier lives for both pets and their human companions.

It's not many people who get their retirement covered on the BBC but I think we all feel this one definitely merits it! A huge thank you to Neil as he ends 50 years of employment with Blue Cross UK today (though he will be back tomorrow for his first day as a volunteer!). His dedication to the charity has been incredible and the work he has done to build up the Bromsgrove centre since setting it up in 1986 is inspiring. He has built up the team of employees and volunteers and has personally cared for and rehomed thousands of animals during that time. We all wish him a wonderful retirement and we look forwards to carrying on in his footsteps!

At Blue Cross UK, we see animals in all kinds of situations. Amber's story is one of heartbreak and hope.  This sweet Golden Retriever was found abandoned, heavily pregnant, and suffering from neglect. So terrified, she fled every attempt at help until she was utterly exhausted. A concerned dog walker finally brought her to a local vet, and a few days later, Amber arrived at Blue Cross's Burford rehoming centre in Oxfordshire.  The signs pointed towards her being used by backyard breeders. Skeletal and with a severe case of mange, it was clear Amber and her unborn puppies wouldn't survive without intervention.  💔 Our dedicated team at Burford immediately assessed Amber's condition. Weakened and in pain, she needed urgent medical attention. Fearing a natural birth would be too risky, they performed an emergency C-section, delivering eight healthy puppies! But Amber's journey wasn't over. It took time, patience and a safe environment for her to trust her carers. Slowly, Amber began to heal – both physically and emotionally. In the meantime, Amber's puppies thrived! At eight weeks old, each one found a loving forever home. And Amber's happy ever after wasn't far behind. She found the second chance she deserved with a wonderful family. 🏡 👩👩👧👧 Can you help animals like Amber find their happy ever after? Please read on to learn more about adopting a rescue pet!  #BlueCross #AdoptDontShop #RescueAnimals #SecondChance #PetLovers #MakeADifference

Thanks Blue Cross UK for the most enjoyable survey I've taken in a while, including questions such as 'How often do you talk about your cat/s?' ('Every hour' as the first response may not be an extreme enough end of the scale for some..), 'Does your cat sit on your clean washing?' (Yes) and 'How many pictures do you take of your cat/s each month on average?' (I put 50, but honestly think I might be underplaying it). This was such a great example of respondent experience designed by people who actually 'get' the thing they're surveying about, and how pet owners feel towards their pets - so much fun I sent it to several pet-owning friends. Looking forward to seeing the results and where I sit on the curve of pet obsession! Here's one of this month's 50 photos. Link to the survey in comments! #petcare #pets #surveys #insights

Today the RSPCA turns 200 ! This is a truly momentous day, and it's incredible to think how many millions of animals are better off thanks to our work across the board: from our rescue and rehabilitation work through to our advocacy and campaigns. We have seen over 400 laws passed in the UK alone as result of our efforts. This image from our archives shows a group of amazing branch volunteer fundraisers, circa 1940!
