Trainee Biomedical Scientist @LTHTR | Researcher | STEM Ambassador | Course Representative | Mentor | Speaker
Incredible day with Ashhad at Everton Football Club's stadium, Goodison Park, for the 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 hosted by The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust! As a STEM Ambassadors, I had the privilege of inspiring over a hundred young students to consider careers in 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Our stall showcased the vital role of Biomedical Scientists in diagnosing diseases through a fun and engaging case study on Infectious Aortitis! Visitors at our stall enjoyed hands-on experiences like: 🧫 Performing their own streak plates and discovering their application in infection science! 🧪 Interpreting blood test results through interactive demonstrations of blood components and their role! 🔬 Exploring the multitude of pathology services using real laboratory tools with our pathology investigation station, showcasing the synergy between blood, infection, genetic, and cellular sciences! 👨🔬 Simulating the journey of a patient sample, from collection to diagnosis, gaining insight into the comprehensive process of pathology! We provided valuable insights into various career pathways, emphasising the support and resources available from the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). The IBMS merchandise was extremely popular with our visitors, leaving us with almost nothing to spare by the end of the day! It was wonderful to be alongside LABB Group, Everton in the Community, and University of Liverpool. Many thanks to Riaz Akhtar, Keith Fowler, and to STEM Learning UK for this incredible opportunity. It's been a privilege to share our passion and knowledge with the next generation of scientists.

This year, we have been supporting the The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust as our chosen charity for 2024 💗 The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust aims to help raise awareness and funding for research into early detection, supporting prevention, treatment, and cures for Aortic Dissection, which if diagnosed and treated in time, has an 80% survival rate. As part of our commitment to supporting the charity, we pledged to raise awareness of the condition to all members of staff. During our recent health and safety awareness seminars, we presented a pre-recorded Q&A video with Pauline Latham OBE MP (a Trustee of the charity) and our HSEQ Advisor Mark Houldsworth. Pauline spoke about the charity in further detail, her motivations for being a charity Trustee and described the signs and symptoms of an Aortic Dissection.
