MENA start-ups raise $55 million in April 2024 🔑 Key Highlights 🔑 ▪ The amount invested in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region fell drastically in April 2024, with only 19 start-ups raising $55 million, a 78% fall month-on-month (MoM) from $254 million raised in March but an 87% increase year-on-year (YoY). ▪ The largest ticket size last month went to Fortis, a UAE-based fintech that received $20 million in Series A, followed by WEE's $10 million pre-Series A round and Tunisia's qodek, which got $8 million in Series B. ▪ Investors' appetite for business-to-business (B2B) remains strong, which recorded $42.5 million across 12 transactions. B2B2C harvested $11 million, and business-to-consumer model (B2C) secured $1.2 million. ▪ April also saw US tech giant Microsoft showing interest in a regional AI player, G42, pouring $1.5 billion in investment for a minority stake with the aim of delivering advanced AI solutions with Microsoft Azure across various industries and markets. ▪ Last month, the Egyptian and Saudi ecosystems came together, with ten Egyptian companies winning the opportunity to explore the Saudi market and expanding into the Kingdom under the joint Saudi-Egyptian programme VMS Bridge. #menatech #menafunding #menafintech

📈 📈 📈 Animoca Brands expands MENA footprint with investment in UAE gaming firm 📈 📈 📈 🔑 Key Highlights 🔑 ▪ Over the past few months, Animoca Brands has led a US$8 million round in Pixelmon and a US$3 million one into Japan-based start-up Gacha Monsters, while also participating in an oversubscribed funding round into Singapore-based Imaginary Ones. ▪ Now, the Hong Kong-based blockchain gaming and NFT firm has continued its prolific streak with a strategic investment in Param, a gaming infrastructure start-up from the United Arab Emirates. ▪ The deal, whose amount is undisclosed, aims to accelerate Param Labs’ scalable Web3 infrastructure while expanding an ecosystem that includes over 50 intellectual property partnerships. This follows a recent partnership announcement between both companies. ▪ Param Labs is a game development company specializing in multiplayer blockchain games and AAA design, which refers to high-budget games distributed by high-profile publishers. The firm’s flagship title Kiraverse is a multiplayer Web3 game of the third-person shooter genre. Players can compete, earn, and trade unique digital assets like characters and skins. ▪ This investment expands Animoca Brands’ presence in the Middle East and North Africa. 📈 🏗 BRKZ, a construction tech start-up eyeing MENA, emerges from stealth with $8M 🏗 📈 🔑 Key Highlights 🔑 ▪ Saudi Arabia is poised to become one of the largest global construction hubs, owing to its trillion-dollar infrastructure and the real estate projects that are underway in the country. ▪ Yet even as the sector in the country continues to expand exponentially, it remains entrenched in traditional practices, leading to project interruptions and increased costs, says Ibrahim Manna, founder and CEO of BRKZ, a construction tech start-up based in Riyadh. ▪ Today BRKZ is emerging from stealth, backed by an $8 million Series A round co-led by BECO Capital and 9900 Capital. aramco’s Wa'ed Ventures, Knollwood Investment Advisory, RZM Investment and Misyon Yatırım Bankası A.Ş. Ventures also participated in the round. ▪ Following the fresh capital injection, the B2B marketplace aims to expand in Saudi Arabia and the MENA region to facilitate contractors in procuring materials and manufacturers in selling, with a focus on same or next-day delivery.
