In a busy week for industry news, National Energy Action (NEA) last week also published its yearly impact report. Exploring the state of UK fuel poverty over the 2023/24 period, it was highlighted that: ➡ 2 million more households in 2023 were in fuel poverty versus the start of 2021. ➡ 20% more households have fallen into debt, with typical domestic energy prices between January and March being £1,928. The report also contained key successes, such as how the Warm Homes Fund has had success targeting low-income households, delivering energy bill savings of £10 million or £922 per household. The SEA strongly believes that creating warmer, safer and healthier homes will help to tackle fuel poverty head on, and we welcome the work that the NEA is doing to support struggling households. We support a fabric first delivery, as part of a whole building approach. Not only do well optimised, comprehensively insulated, draught proofed, and air-tight properties have vastly reduced energy demands, but they will serve as comfortable, warm and healthy indoor living and working environments. The simplest and most effective way to reliably lower bills is to prevent energy from being wasted by inefficient buildings and increase investment in energy efficiency measures. Have a read of our reports to understand more about our fabric first approach: https://lnkd.in/e2GXukrg #FabricFirst #Insulation #EnergyDemand

Did you know, in the UK, nearly a quarter (23%) of carbon emissions come from heating water and indoor spaces, mostly using gas? 🤔 🚨Across Europe, heating buildings accounts for 36% of CO2 emissions, with poorly insulated buildings contributing to higher emissions. 💡Air bricks cause up to 15% of a home’s heat loss, wasting 34,000 GWh/year in the UK. Swift action is essential to meet net zero targets and Innovate UK's Net Zero Heat programme is leading this critical transformation. Our latest video in the Net Zero Heat cohort series features AirEx Technologies - Smart Draught Control a climate tech company combating fuel poverty and climate change with smart home solutions. Airex designed the world's first smart air brick to reduce energy demand and manage air quality in homes. Learn how Airex’s innovative approach, supported by Innovate UK, reduces heat loss by intelligently controlling airflow, revolutionising the building retrofit market with easy-to-install, user-friendly technology for connected homes. 🏡 >> Watch the full video: https://ow.ly/UH2f50SGWA3 #NZHeat #Airex #airbricks #innovation #netzero #sustainability #insulation #retrofit

As the number of technologies and complexity of different measures required to be installed grows, as does the requirement for effective installer competencies and training programmes. It’s good to see training providers helping to address the green skills gap being celebrated, with our Executive Member, Mitsubishi Electric Living Environmental Systems UK nominated for Training Provider of the Year at the HVR Awards 2024. We believe in a technology agnostic approach but what is technology agnosticism? Technology agnosticism or neutrality, is the requirement for policy to preserve optionality to deliver the best technologies for the right outcomes in order to decarbonise heat in buildings🏘️. There are a great many number of low-carbon technologies that can be used to decarbonise a building and its heat demands. Tell us about your innovative technology ⬇️ #LowCarbon #Heating #TechnologyAgnostic #Decarbonisation

Sobering reminder from the Climate Change Committee today that more needs to be done to tackle climate change. The CCC reports that only one third of the emissions reductions required to achieve the country’s 2030 target are currently covered by credible plans. As ever, the SEA is committed to working with industry and government to ensure that all buildings are energy efficient, net-zero carbon, warm and healthy.
