And they’re off….! 🚲 Today, a team of individuals from Surrey Police and Sussex Police set off on a four-day, 240-mile cycle ride to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire as part of the UK Police Unity Tour. Starting in Brighton, this long-distance cycling event honours the police officers and staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty and serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and selflessness with which our colleagues across the country undertake their duties. The riders made their first stop at Sussex Police HQ for a short memorial service, led by the Force Chaplain, and were waved off by Chief Constable Jo Shiner. Throughout the ride, they will be raising vital funds for the Care Of Police Survivors (COPS), a UK charity dedicated to helping rebuild the lives of families who have lost loved ones in relation to their duty. They have an ambitious fundraising target and with the help of donors, and partners Metfriendly and the National Police Healthcare Scheme, they are riding to ensure that families receive the support they need at the most difficult of times. We’re inviting LGBTQ+ community members to come to talk to us honestly about how to provide an outstanding public service for Sussex. The Amex Stadium is hosting our next LGBTQ+ External Reference Group. There will be a tour of the grounds and the opportunity to tell us what you think of us. The group looks to encourage open conversations between police and the LGBTQ+ community so that we can learn, adapt and work positively together to improve trust and confidence. It’s incredibly important that we better understand your interests and concerns within Sussex and invite you to share your honest thoughts with us on a variety of different topics. Our next meeting is taking place on the 18 July at the American Express Football Stadium. If this is something you think you would like to be involved in, please join us. The group is friendly and welcoming, and we ask that you email our Diversity team at Diversity@sussex.police.uk to register your interest. We look forward to meeting you! #Sussex #LGBTQ+ #Event #Policing #Community
