The legal lateral move market in Asia remained highly active over the last month, with significant developments across Singapore, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. Singapore recorded six major partner hires, while Hong Kong saw four, with prominent international law firms like Addleshaw Goddard, Simmons & Simmons, Gibson Dunn, Hogan Lovells, Dentons, and Freshfields making key moves. 🤝🏢 Mainland China continues to see robust hiring activity by local PRC firms, alongside a notable international offshore hire by Appleby in Shanghai. In contrast, US firms Morrison & Foerster and Dechert announced the closure of their Beijing and Hong Kong offices. While these closures might seem to signify an accelerating trend, they remain very much in the minority in a busy legal landscape, with about 80 major US and UK law firms still operating in Beijing and Shanghai, alongside approximately 100 other foreign firms.
