🐘 A record-breaking 25.5 tonnes of rubbish, equal to the weight of four elephants, was cleared from Sandford Bay near Peterhead by 32 volunteers from SSEN Transmission, Keltbray, and David Smith Contractors.   🌊The clean-up effort, part of the Eastern Green Link 2 subsea cable project, filled 30 construction bags and two skips with debris like car tyres and fishing nets. Throughout today, we have been spotlighting the amazing people here at Transmission who are delivering a #NetworkForNetZero! ⚡️ Meet Drew, our Lead Engineering Manager on our HVDC cable projects! 👨🎓 Drew left school at 16 with standard grades, but no higher qualifications. He went on to work several jobs over the next 11-years, such as a Sign Maker, Telephonist, Retail Assistant, Factory Operative, and Taxi Driver! 🧑🔧 At 27, he began studying Engineering Systems, and graduated from UHI with a degree three years later, he then joined SSEN Transmission as a Graduate Trainee.   👷 Since the completion of his 2-year graduate development programme, Drew has been dedicated to supporting SSEN Transmission’s HVDC cable system projects and is now a Lead Engineering Manager in that field. ➡️ Power your career: https://lnkd.in/e6kqyV64

Meet Hamza! 💡 Hamza earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Jordan. Our Senior Communications Manager 📝 🧑💻Thomas left school at 16 and worked as a school-leaver trainee in SSE plc's IT department. At the end of that programme, he was offered the opportunity to stay with the company. Fast forward seventeen years and Thomas has built up his experience as a Corporate Communicator by taking on a variety of roles across the department, including a long stint as SSE’s Digital Communications Manager, before moving into the role of Senior Communications Manager here at SSEN Transmission ⚡️ 🎓 Alongside building up his at-work experience, Thomas also took on the opportunity to revisit his education in 2020, through Queen Margaret University's Graduate Apprenticeship - successfully graduating with a first-class honours degree in Business Management earlier this year. ➡️ Find out more about our career opportunities: https://lnkd.in/e6kqyV64 #Career #Future #NoWrongPath

After finishing school, Megan spent three years traveling the world. When she returned home, she decided to study Sustainability and Environmental Management at university, driven by her love for geography. 🌍 👩🏫 Her adventures didn’t stop there! Megan then flew to China to teach English. When she came back, she went back to uni and became a qualified primary school teacher. However, teaching wasn’t quite her thing. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 So, she packed up again and moved to Scotland, joining SSEN Transmission’s graduate programme. 👷 This week, we published our Annual Innovation Report for 2023-24, showcasing the significant progress made across our Network Innovation Allowance (NIA), Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and some of our Business Innovation project. 💡 The report showcases our commitment to delivering a safer, smarter, greener, and faster network through innovation, detailing our progress in key projects aligned to our Innovation Strategy. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: ⚡️ We achieved a 100% success rate with SIF applications in the last year, with £4.8m awarded to SSEN Transmission through the Ofgem and UKRI fund. This includes our flagship Beta project, Network-DC, and our visual pre-connection tool Alpha project, REACT. ⚡️Our NIA portfolio has also managed 12 live projects over the past year, with the addition of 4 new projects, including exploring the use of robotics to monitor our high voltage equipment in our AIM High project. ⚡️Collaboration with 34 project partners across our portfolio to deliver our innovation projects, ranging from academic institutions, small innovators, large enterprises, and other electricity and gas networks. ➡️ Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eBTc7C4g #Innovation #NetworkForNetZero #SecurePowerForGenerations
