It was a great delight to successfully conclude the week-long National Space Academy (NSA) "Space to Learn - Space camp" last Friday at the University of South Wales (USW). The students and staff had a fantastic time, and it was a great team effort from colleagues at NSA and USW with the fantastic help from our industrial and university colleagues. The students were post-GCSE across Wales, with almost half of the cohort from North and West Wales attending the camp as residential participants. The programme was fully funded by the UK Space Agency in collaboration with NSA and USW. The students had the opportunity to participate in exciting hands-on practical workshops and hear about a wide range of space-related topics from amazing industry and institution colleagues, representing, ⏺ UK Space Command - Flt Lt Jason Greenwood ⏺ European Space Agency - ESA - Grant Day ⏺ Thales Alenia Space - Jill Hutchinson ⏺ Space Wales - Dr Rosie Cane ⏺ Space Forge - Neil Monteiro, Rafal Borne ⏺ Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park Obsevatory - Martin Griffiths ⏺ Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd - Professor Paul Roche ⏺ Swansea University - Dr Zoran Jelic ⏺ National Space Acdamey - Em Truman, Steffan Tudor ⏺ University of South Wales - Professor Damian Bailey, Dr Philip Charlesworth, Dr Darren Williams, Robert Tipping, Elango Nagasundaram, Natcha Laethongkham, Faith Holbrook A huge thanks goes to the staff at NSA, and the Future Students, Hospitality, Accomadation, Security and Faculty colleagues of Computing, Engineering and Science at the University of South Wales for their great team effort towards the sucess of the programme. #spacetolearn #spaceatusw #engineeringatusw Chris Fogarty MBE, Nigel Towers, John Whalley FRAeS, Lisa Colford, Vicki Jacks, David Wilkinson, Heather Francis, Sera Evans, Chrsi Edwards, Rhys Llewellyn, Louise Bright, Paul Davies, Hayley Burns, Louise Pennell, Iain Shewring, Darryl Morgan, Neil Gibson Chart.PR MCIPR. 🚀 "Six impossible things before breakfast" A long time ago (last week) in a galaxy far far away (Leeds)… Joshua Western, Co-Founder and CEO of Space Forge, shared how he navigated launching a space business with Co-Founder Andrew Bacon 👇 1) Exploring the frontier of becoming a start-up 2) Securing funding without a Jedi mind trick 3) Constructing a satellite in less time than it takes to clone a Storm Trooper 4) Losing that satellite (no Millennium Falcon to catch it) 5) Persevering through major events across the star system 6) Maintaining balance in the Forge against all odds. It has been an incredible journey but Space Forge is building an empire (not the evil kind) to secure a more sustainable future. ✨ To infinity and beyond (wrong movie, but you get the idea). #Manufacturing #AdvancedMaterials UK Space Agency
