We are working with Network Rail to warn people about the dangers of misusing level crossings as we approach the school summer holidays. This shocking footage is just one example of almost 30 near misses on the Sussex route alone (April 2023 - March 2024). Our Health, Safety and Security Director Samantha Facey had this to say: "We want people to be safe, feel safe, travel safe. We really can't overemphasise the need to be aware of how dangerous level crossings can be if they aren't used properly. People can easily be seriously hurt or even killed, and too many families have already been affected tragically. It's absolutely vital that the rail industry works together to get the safety message across: please, please respect the railway and use these crossings sensibly.” Please do not risk your life on a level crossing, they are there for a reason. It's been a busy week across the business, helping our partners get involved with Community Rail Week. Here are some of the team getting stuck in at Ore station 💐 Community Rail Network #CommunityRailWeek
It was great to be out yesterday as part of #communityrailweek run by Community Rail Network We spent the day creating a new wildflower and herb garden at Ore Station working with Southern Railway, Southeast Communities Rail Partnership CIC and Network Rail colleagues. This is one of many activities that take place this week to showcase how rail is #morethanarailway. Stations are brilliant community spaces where volunteers get together to make a difference to the station and to the environment every day. I can testify that the new garden looks and smells great and will make the station experience lovely for our customers. Thanks to all involved for a great day. #community #environment #volunteering #CSR

We're pleased that Glynde and Southease train stations have two new digital screens. 🖥 The stations are the latest along the south coast to receive customer information enhancements. Last year saw new screens, or public announcement systems, introduced at seven small rural stations in East Sussex: Newhaven Harbour, Bishopstone, Pevensey Bay, Normans Bay, Three Oaks, Doleham and Winchelsea. We're pleased to have recruited new female train drivers thanks to our partnership with Career Returners (previously Women Returners). We've been working with the organisation since 2022 to find talent through an avenue dedicated to helping those on extended career breaks. Zoey Hudson, Head of Talent, Diversity and Inclusion, said: “We’re passionate about attracting the best talent, and we know this can’t be done through traditional avenues alone. It’s been a fantastic experience to be part of the Returners scheme and welcome five women to the business that had perhaps never even considered working in rail. The programme goes to show that just because someone has been out of employment for an extended time, they are no less determined or capable.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dWc88yu6 #womeninrail #recruitment

As part of the June timetable update, we will be doubling the number of trains between Brighton, Worthing and Chichester, creating more than 5,000 extra seats a day. Jenny Saunders said: “We are making these changes to give passengers more trains and many more seats on our more popular routes. Services will be much more frequent, more punctual, faster in some cases, and more reliable right across the network. There will be less waiting for trains as well because we’ll space out the services more evenly. “These improvements for the vast majority of our customers along the coastal route will encourage greener travel on our electric trains, tourism and employment, boosting local communities and economies from Southampton to Brighton.” Read more 📑 : https://lnkd.in/d5Sb2EaA #rail #timetablechange
