Last week I attended Sigma Labs’ first ever Data Hackathon, representing one of John Lewis Partnership’s four teams in a field of 17 teams from across the industry. It was a terrific day hosted at the Queen Elizabeth Park, where teams were tasked with building a data app to enhance audience participation at the Paris Olympic games in only four hours! Roland Madeley, Theo Anghelides, George Wright and I looked to build a ‘Top Trumps’ esque product for indivual Olympians dating back to 1896 Summer Olympics. To do this, we used Snowflake for data manipulation, and a combination of a Keboola pipeline to a Streamlit application alongside a trusty Tableau dashboard to present to the judges. Michael Phelps most sought after trump! The energy in the room was fantastic and it was inspiring to see the products the presentations from the three finalists on the day. Personally, I loved using both skills from my day job and some learnt on the day to work with the data from sport. Those who know me will testify sport is 90% of what I talk about.
