We very much welcome the recent NCEPOD report ‘A Long and Painful Road’ which includes new research on the quality of care provided to endometriosis patients and recommends improvements including exploring “the use of imaging modalities in the diagnosis of endometriosis.”  Our innovative imaging marker - maraciclatide - is currently being investigated as a tool for detecting, in particular, superficial peritoneal endometriosis which is currently only possible with laparoscopy. #endometriosis #womenshealth #molecularimaging #diagnosticimaging #medicalimaging #precisionmedicine #nuclearmedicine

We are excited to report that an abstract on preliminary data from our DETECT imaging study has been accepted for oral presentation at the annual congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) taking place from 18-23 October 2024 in Hamburg, Germany. The DETECT study is evaluating the potential of maraciclatide to visualise endometriosis, and specifically superficial peritoneal endometriosis, which could have a significant impact on the lives of millions of women suffering with the disease. The study is ongoing and the presentation will include the latest findings and insights into the detection of disease subtypes. We are excited to report major news this week for the development of ⁹⁹ᵐTc-maraciclatide as an imaging agent for endometriosis: the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has granted fast track designation to maraciclatide "for the visualisation and diagnosis of superficial peritoneal endometriosis in women 16 years of age or older". Fast track is a process designed to facilitate the development and expedite the review of drugs to treat (or in our case, diagnose) serious conditions and fill an unmet medical need so that patients can benefit sooner. Superficial peritoneal endometriosis (SPE) is the earliest and most common form of endometriosis, comprising approximately 80% of all diagnoses. SPE is not well visualised with current non-invasive imaging tools (ultrasound and MRI) and definitive diagnosis requires laparoscopy. In data previously reported from the DETECT study being run by our colleagues at the Nuffield Dept of Women's & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford, maraciclatide correctly identified superficial peritoneal endometriosis in those who went on to have this early-stage endometriosis confirmed by laparoscopy. Continuing positive results from the DETECT study comparing the imaging of superficial peritoneal endometriosis by ⁹⁹ᵐTc-maraciclatide with laparoscopic surgery are being presented today in a poster by one of the investigators, Dr Tatjana Gibbons from the Nuffield Dept of Women's & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford. Jon Barnett, Programme Director for maraciclatide, our molecular imaging agent in development for endometriosis and inflammatory arthritis is heading off to Bucharest this week to attend the 7th European Endometriosis Congress (EEC) from 6-8 June. He will be joining Dr Tatjana Gibbons from the Nuffield Dept of Women's & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford who is a key member of the Oxford University team running our DETECT study evaluating maraciclatide as a non-invasive test for endometriosis. Many thanks to Christiane Hagel, Oxford FemTech Society President for the invitation to participate in the inaugural FemTech Soc event last Friday at Green Templeton College, Oxford University, which set out to explore the benefits of applying technology to address longstanding gaps in women’s health. Our molecular imaging tool, maraciclatide which is in development to diagnose endometriosis, was one of the potential solutions highlighted to improve women’s health by improving the diagnosis of this condition which currently affects 1 in 10 women and takes an average of 9 years to diagnose.
