The King's Speech, a key moment for the new UK Government to outline its priorities and set the legislative agenda for the upcoming parliamentary session, was delivered today (July 17) in the House of Commons. Responding, Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said; "Today’s King's Speech has built on the UK Government’s early focus on kickstarting economic growth and accelerating our move to a clean energy system, including its commitment to tackling the unnecessary delays that currently hinder delivery of critical infrastructure. “As the UK Government seeks to establish GB Energy which will provide a boost with its headquarters in Scotland, we encourage them to work closely with industry to ensure it delivers the additionality we need to secure much needed investment for our impressive pipeline of projects. “Aligning GB Energy with the National Wealth Fund and underpinning this with an empowering green industrial strategy, as well as initiatives delivered by the Scottish Government, presents a unique opportunity for scaling-up our supply chains and emerging technologies, particularly floating offshore wind. “As we accelerate the delivery of clean energy projects, it will also be essential that the UK Government quickly tackles existing barriers to investment in the form of damaging transmission charges and new threats such as proposed electricity market reform measures as well as responding to the need to get behind a public awareness campaign highlighting the undoubted social and economic benefits that clean energy will bring to the UK. “In that effort, we look forward to working closely with the UK Government to build the policy stability, regulatory agility and visibility of support our industry needs to help deliver our clean energy ambitions.” https://lnkd.in/d8jmpYpX #renewables #cleanenergy

Today Scottish Renewables has released a report recommending 10 quick wins for the UK Government’s first 100 days to unlock the enormous socio-economic potential of renewable energy projects across Scotland. 1️⃣ Maximise Contracts for Difference Allocation Rounds 2️⃣ Prioritise the delivery of vital transmission infrastructure 3️⃣ Ensure evolutionary, not revolutionary, electricity market reform 4️⃣ Launch a four nations taskforce for clear net-zero coordination 5️⃣ Rollout rapid investments in supply chains, ports and planning 6️⃣ Accelerate energy efficiency and clean heat installations 7️⃣ Kickstart skills development and the just transition 8️⃣ Consult industry on priorities for future energy legislation 9️⃣ Secure industry backing for GB Energy in Scotland 🔟 Implement investment mechanism for long-duration energy storage "Scottish Renewables looks forward to advancing these priorities in the weeks ahead to build the policy stability, regulatory agility and visibility of support we have consistently called for." As the first week of the new UK Parliament kicks off, 67 organisations from across Scotland's renewable energy industry and supply chain have joined a call by Scottish Renewables to the new UK Government to maximise Contracts for Difference Allocation Rounds. In a letter to the new Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Scottish Renewables have highlighted the importance of uplifting the Allocation Round 6 budget for delivering the capacity needed to meet ambitious 2030 deployment targets from vital Scottish projects.
