Brand Strategy Doing the Right Thing. First do no Harm. There are 18,000 litres of raw sewage is discharged into Brazil’s iconic Guanabara Bay EVERY SECOND. And so Brazilian beauty brand, O Boticário have reproduced the scent of the bay BEFORE the water became murky + it was covered in rubbish, creating a fragrance called Extinto emulating the “freshness of the waters and the lush green of the forests, with a dewy effect.” BUT the scent has not been launched as a consumer product but as a limited edition product campaign in a cry for “improved environmental preservation + waste management.” And not just in Brazil, dedicated scents have also been created to address the impact of pollution in Calabria, Madagascar, New Delhi, and East Arnhem. This is a fFantastic example of a brand emotionally connecting with people for the right reasons; this has been lost … more powerful than stats or the familiar images of rubbish-filled oceans that have now rightly or wrongly but definitely sadly, lost their impact. TACKLING WASTE 2024 Across the UK, approximately 250,000 tents are left behind at music festivals every summer, with most ending up in landfills. 🌲 In a bid to tackle this massive waste issue @decathlonuk have brought back their 'No Tent Left Behind' campaign for the second year. Festival-goers who bought a tent from the brand’s MH100 collection are invited to return it by 13 September 2024 for a FULL refund gift card. ♻️ All used tents - providing they’re not damaged - will be accepted, where they will be refurbished + resold through Decathlon’s Second Life programme. 👏🏽 A fantastic example of a brand leading the way in tackling the global waste issue: not only in making sustainable choices more accessible to consumers, but also holding themselves accountable - with a number of tents on offer below £30, many consumers now view these as single-use items for the festival season. Through the No Tent Left Behind campaign, Decathlon publicly recognise the massive environmental impact of this and have taken action in becoming part of the solution to a problem they helped cause. 💡 Do you think more brands should take the lead in tackling key environmental issues?
