About us

We are a community organisation that uses sport and education to bring people together from diverse backgrounds. Our portfolio of programmes engages children from age 3 to adults in their 80s, using sport and education to tackle socio-cultural issues including low levels of mental and physical wellbeing, violent crime, engagement of marginalised groups, offender rehabilitation, religious hatred and access to volunteering, training and employment. Our ability to engage "hard-to-reach" communities has been recognised through over 25 awards in our 10-year history, including recognition from The Prime Minister, BBC and Mayor of London. Salaam Peace in partnership with Hackney Housing deliver an impactful message of community togetherness, diversity and unity in a time where estates are often viewed negatively or looked down upon, with implications of gangs and antisocial behaviour. 4 Hackney Estates, (Frampton, Nisbet, Hawksley and Lordship) and over 30 boys, all came together to connect and compete against each other in a meaningful football tournament. Despite all the recent crime and bloodshed in Hackney, many young men came together on a Friday night to participate in something worthwhile. Special guests included Mark Blake, Former Cabinet Lead Community Safety Haringey, Kelly Edwards, Hackney Housing and Dr Sabir Bham (Sab), Founder/CEO of Salaam Peace. Well done to all those who attended making it an amazing and successful evening. We will continue to engage all participants throughout the summer holidays in their estates, as well as taking them on trips and organising more estate tournaments and cross borough gatherings and now all Hackney programmes will come under the SP hackney banner. "Other organisations really need to be looking at you/the work Salaam Peace is delivering, you are managing to get young people in the older age group and keep them engaged, showing them positive role models in their communities, offering them a safe space and really looking out for these young people.  I am so proud to be a partner and will always champion the work you all do! Keep it up."- Kelly Edwards, Hackney Housing Massive shoutout to Che Clarke, Ronny & Mohammed for organising and running such an impactful event. Salaam Peace 2024 Nugent Richard Eid Cup Football Competition! Our flagship Eid Cup football competition brought together over 100 young people from Waltham Forest, Hackney, Haringey, Newham and Leicester. Named after Nugent Richard for his exceptional commitment to young people's sporting and social development both for Salaam Peace and in East London. The aim of the event was to : 1. Use football as a vehicle to bring like-minded young people and youth organisations together from different areas. 2. Show solidarity in light of current affairs that polarise our communities. 3. Demonstrate that the differences we have enrich us rather than divide us. 4. Showcase young talented footballers. Competition winners were: - U12s: East End United (runners up: Thru Life) - U15s: Salaam Peace (runners up: Jellot FC) Massive thanks to some of our partners and guests who attended including Marlon Wilson Stella Creasy MP Maureen Branch-Davis Yvonne CAMPBELL Amanda Lewis Guy Sorrill and others. Special thanks to George Turle Leyton Sixth Form College for allowing us to host the event at such a nice venue.

Our Silvertown Stars Are Shining ⭐ Gabriel and Irfaan, pictured here, both 13, began their journey with Salaam Peace three years ago, through engaging in P.E sessions and evening football sessions at Britannia Village and Royal Wharf primary schools. Since January, they have completed over 30 hours of volunteering with us at our boy's football community session at Royal Wharf. They lead warm-ups, support our coaches with session delivery and are real role models for our session participants to aspire to be like. They have now gone on to engage in wider Salaam Peace activities including playing in our Eid Cup football competition #strongerfutures and will soon hopefully be attending a residential with us. Massive shoutout to Jack Courtney for your support with our work in Newham!

It's more than just sport! It's more than dropping down a few cones and doing some physical and technical work. It's about using sport as a vehicle to create positive relationships between young people from different backgrounds, improve wellbeing and provide positive pathways that build #strongerfutures This message is captured brilliantly from our friend and partner Richard from Thru Life. Massive shoutout to our community champion Amelia (13) for the excellent interview skills. More Eid Cup posts to follow!

We loved the energy in the room. Great connections, conversations and a very clear shared commitment to build #strongerfutures for our young people. Many thanks to London's Violence Reduction Unit Gareth Plumb Darwin B Lib Peck and the rest of the team for organising.

🌞Summer means hope and opportunity for young Londoners. 🧡We brought together 150 youth organisations for an evening of collaboration, partnership and to share information on activities and opportunities delivered for young people over the summer holidays. 👀More info to come! In the past 5 years, we've invested in up to 350,000 positive opportunities and targeted interventions so that young Londoners can reach their full potential. This summer, we'll be sharing all that's on offer to keep our young people safe and supported.

⚽🤝 Salaam Peace football festival brings together 60 young people aged 8-18‼️ As part of our #VRUStrongerFutures programme, we organised a football festival for our core football participants in Waltham Forest. The event brought together 60 young people aged 8-18, who participated in skills challenges, team-building activities and matches. Special guests who attended included: 1. Danny Byrne, from Arsenal FC academy, who gave a short motivational talk to our aspiring footballers, and donated lots of Arsenal FC kit! 2. Stella Creasy MP , a long-term supporter and friend of ours, who always champions the needs of local residents (P.S. we lost count of the amount of times she mentioned Man Utd's F.A cup win...). 3. Radhika Kalia from London Youth , who kindly awarded prizes to some of our young people and continues to ensure our young people can access to competitions and events (including England football tickets). 4. Rashan Mcdonald from StreetGames UK , who has kindly supported our staff with development opportunities and look forward to working closely with in the future. Massive thanks to Leyton Sixth Form College for allowing us access to the football facilities for the event, and for Chuks from the sports department for the media footage. We now look ahead to our Eid Cup football competition, which will take place on Saturday 29th June. Gareth Plumb Rocket Science UK Ltd Michael Theodorou Darwin B

A great experience from start to finish. Being able to critique grant applications helped improve our own fundraising skills, leading to stronger applications to current funders including London's Violence Reduction Unit #VRUStrongerFutures Having the opportunity to lead the panel also allowed us to learn about how to best involve young people in grantmaking, which we hope to continue to share with funders and partners.

“The Berkeley Foundation Youth Panel was a great experience’ Che, Salaam Peace Last year, we worked with a group of young people from partner charity Salaam Peace to score applications and make funding recommendations for our #ResilienceFund. Salaam Peace is a genuinely youth-led organisation with expertise in involving young people in decision-making. They brought valuable experience to the process - and the young people helped us to make better-informed funding decisions! It helped us to build on this #participatorygrantmaking approach for Year 3 of the Resilience Fund, working with young people with experience of homelessness to design and develop the criteria, assess applications and make funding recommendations. Our growing partnership with Leyton Sixth Form College continues to flourish as the men's football team defends the Waltham Forest Cup ❗ We have been delivering programmes at the college since 2017, including football teams, drop-in lunchtime football sessions, holiday football sessions, ESOL multisports sessions, personal development sessions and sports leadership. Through this, we have engaged over 500 young people. More than 20 have progressed into paid work with Salaam Peace. 8 ex-college students are in our current staff/volunteers team. But enough from us! The testimony from George, Sports Manager, captures the essence of what we do! "A huge thank you to all at SP for all your support this academic year and your involvement across our provision. As you say, the growth and success of the men’s football team over recent years has been impressive and is not only reflected in the results on the pitch, but also in their behaviour and conduct off it and we really appreciate the work that you and all of SP do in supporting the young people at the college.   The support that SP provide is invaluable and helps to provide pathways for many of our ESOL/Level 1 students to engage in the regular sport programme. It’s also a great to see so many of our former students joining the coaching staff of SP, who then serve as strong role models to our current students and Khunas is an excellent example of this. The work on the Positive Routes project, supporting staff with formulating their views and passions in a constructive manner has been very effective. The workshops as well as the informal conversations have helped create more rounded individuals. This has been effective in college and out in the community. The work of SP also supports many of our students in their personal growth and for me, the best example of this is Herbert, who through his involvement in the football programme has grown in confidence this year and was successful in applying for the FA Young Leaders programme and to be an AoC Sports Ambassador, volunteering at the National Championships in Nottingham.    Please don’t do a Jurgen Klopp on us, we look forward to many more years working in partnership with SP.  #VRUStrongerFutures London's Violence Reduction Unit Rocket Science UK Ltd
