When Ruka Hair calls you, you know something big is coming up! ☎️ Ruka Hair contacted me to model in their new campaign, #GreyScale, featuring Mia Maugé, @mercy chilengwe, with a range of grey hair extensions in their iconic texture and of course I accepted! As a 50 year old woman and single mum I love myself and I am self confident. I will argue for what I want and don't pay attention to judgements because I know what I'm worth. The ageing process is totally natural and I love my grey hair, so why should I dye it?👩🏾🦳 After all, "black don't crack" as they say, but 50 is when you suddenly become invisible. This is why I agreed to take part in this campaign, because it's not just for me, it's for everyone else. Women over 50 are described as slow, weak, feeble, frail and unattractive. But who says so? In my opinion, women over 50 are resilient , have a much larger network of support, a better sense of self and not much to prove.✨ Ruka Hair is a british hair company based in London, famous for their sensational campaign as well as their savvy marketing and strong community. They have constantly set themself apart by creating innovative, high-quality hair products and creative campaigns, becoming a source of inspiration and representation for black women in the UK and internationally. Besides, the #RukaHairTeam is made up of brilliant, kind and talented people showing their commitment to inclusivity and their determination to promote all kinds of beauty shows a real change towards acceptance of the ageing process. Ruka Hair has succeeded, as always with this thoughtful campaign, to offer a product aimed at Gen X, by putting the spotlight on older women. So if you still don't know about #RukaHair, what are you waiting for? #GreyScale is dropping tonight at 7pm GMT ✨ Alicia Canosa 🌟Nneka Fleming Niclette LOUTSEMO koniba pléah Guylaine Conquet Aida Aicha Bodian Kévin Lubiku Hedia CHARNI Maeva Mon Budget Bento Marie-Laure Durier Imogen Stranis-Oppler Abuk Joseph Tomi Talabi Hanadi Mostefa Rhea Cartwright David Gueye Morgane Meyer LINDJY SYLVAIN Monieka Bos Hilary Teksin Arieta Mujay Katie Bromley / Oldham Eve Oxberry Eugene Davis Ugo Agbai Winnie Awa Annika Allen (She/Her) Ghana Elin Nicole Walters Jean Claude Le Grand Amos Susskind Yolanda G. #Over50years #beauty #GenZ #GreyScale #SelfConfidence #ruka #blackdontcrack

I'm so inspired by Ruka Hair's latest breakthrough: Greyscale attachments. In an industry saturated with celebrity brands (sigh), unattainable beauty standards (still going strong!), and brands competing for Gen Z’s attention, this is a literal breath of fresh air. Witnessing brands cater to such a significant yet often overlooked demographic is truly heartening – a demographic with IMMENSE purchasing power, mind you. It's baffling how frequently this demo is disregarded, made to feel insignificant and invisible. But the truth is, brands often don’t know how to speak to this demographic, let alone create for them. Age inclusivity continues to be a problem in the beauty industry, and we need to do more to change the narrative that ageing is something we should avoid at all costs. As Ruka says on their Instagram page, the emphasis isn’t even on encouraging women to age “gracefully”, but rather “however the heck I want”. I love it. Bravo, I can't wait to see how this launch does, and what you do next 👏

I'm not even the target audience for this campaign, but this might be my fav product launch in a while 🤩 Tomorrow Ruka Hair are launching their greyscale hair extension range and this could mark a huge turning point for the beauty industry 😯 Over the last few years, Ruka has reimagined the black hair industry through innovative ethically sourced product ranges, and last week they announced they were doing it again, this time with a line of extensions dedicated to grey hair! 😍 Whilst we've seen strides being taken in the right direction towards embracing the process of aging for women throughout the beauty industry, Ruka has tackled a huge gap in the market embracing greying hair for the beauty that it is Ruka have used this opportunity to celebrate this natural process of aging that is so commonly covered up, through words spoken by the women that understand this issue better than anyone 👏🏾 I've absolutely LOVED seeing this campaign rollout across socials I really hope that more brands get on board with this so that we can remove stigma around the most natural process of all... aging! P.S. Does anyone else find it refreshing to see a beauty campaign launch that isn't directed at Gen Z?! 💁🏾♀️ #RukaGreyScale #beauty #blackhair

A couple weeks ago now I gave a Keynote speech at the launch of Tech Nation's Libra Programme 2024. I was honoured to be invited to share my journey so far as a founder and alumni of the programme. I ended up speaking about how I lean into my identity as a musician to make myself a better business builder... Making music: creating something from nothing, trusting the abilities of strangers to take over where you leave off, not necessarily being able to pick out what you contributed to the mix, putting in 10,000 hrs to develop an instinct to play it by ear, and most importantly understanding that there is theory but no formula or right answer. Sound familiar? Disrupting the hair industry, where a lack of regulation, standardisation and black-box supply chains creates complete ambiguity (on top of the marathon that is building a business in any industry...) has meant picking up my musician's toolkit more than I could have ever imagined! Thanks to Chantelle Young for inviting me, and a huge congratulations to all the founders on this year's Libra cohort. Good luck leaning into your identities and instincts on the journey ahead 🎉 #libracohort2024 #wearetechnation #rukahair #startupstories

    CEO & Co-founder at Ruka

For BHM, we're launching the £10,000 Ruka Hair Making History Fund in partnership with Henkel dx for 3 Black women in the UK. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have investors who understand the Ruka Hair vision and backed me from the inception of this business. I’m extremely passionate about the change we want to make but it would be silly to not acknowledge the privilege I have in being able to fundraise. I went to The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and became a consultant at Bain & Company. Whilst I worked hard to get to these institutions, these are logos that have without a doubt reduced the barrier to speaking to investors for me. Outside of this bubble though, there are so many incredible founders where that path didn't align with their passion or skillset, or they did not have equal access / opportunities to attend those universities or work at those companies. Alongside this, there are so many of us who grew up thinking that such options of external financing weren’t accessible or for us! This is why it’s important to me that we pay it forward. With this Ruka Making History grant, created in partnership with the wonderful team at Henkel who so passionately support us, we are able to take the first step at doing just that. Wherever you’ve studied, wherever you’ve worked, we want to see 3 black women take + accelerate their business idea in the black hair market. To win £2,000, £3,000 or £5,000 grant apply here: https://lnkd.in/eurpySqC. submission ends 20/10 where we'll announce the 10 shortlisted candidates who can pitch for the 3 final awards. Here’s to making history 🥂
