We're delighted to share that RS Group has been included in TIME Magazine’s first edition of the World's Most Sustainable Companies 2024. This is great recognition of our commitment to advance sustainability - not only within our business, but also for our industrial customers and suppliers, as we champion the development of sustainable product and service solutions that support their maintenance, repair and operations needs. In a world where environmental and social challenges are more pressing than ever, it is critical that businesses take the lead on driving sustainable practices and progress. Through our 2030 ESG action plan – For a Better World, we are committed to doing just that. We have set ambitious, SBTi-verified carbon reduction goals related to our product, logistics, operations and suppliers, which are driving towards our long-term net zero ambition. We’re also using more sustainable packaging and championing more sustainable products and service solutions for the global industrial sector - like our Better World product range. Andrea Barrett, our VP of Social Responsibility and Sustainability said: "Thank you to everyone across RS and all of our partners for leading the charge. We're pleased with the progress we’re making, but know we have a long journey ahead and there is much more to be done. We’re excited by that opportunity and committed to collaborating with all our stakeholders to make it happen. We know that it will generate additional value for all." Congratulations to all the companies driving change in sustainable business practices and working towards a better future for people and the planet. Let’s continue to forge ahead. "I’ve been involved in this challenge in previous years and I hope to again as the technology, and the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm of students, evolves. It’s an exciting landscape to be involved in and rewarding to see at grassroots level how young minds can be inspired by the technology that’s all around us." Simon Lummis, our education lead at OKdo, has been speaking to The Engineer UK to discuss how RS is helping to inspire the engineers of tomorrow through the IET's First Lego League. https://lnkd.in/e2-6EpeQ #STEM #FirstLEGOLeague #Education

The 52kW capacity solar panel array and 40kWh battery installed at our offices and Fulfilment Centre in Midrand, South Africa have supplied over 45% of the site’s electricity use since they were commissioned in October 2023. Previously, power cuts in South Africa meant that the site relied on its diesel generator for up to 13 hours a day compared to less than six hours per month now the system is operational. On-site solar power generation has cut energy costs by around 40%, reduced carbon emissions and has provided much needed energy security for RS South Africa. #AdvancingSustainability #WeAreRS #ESG #ForABetterWorld

We have published our 2023/24 ESG Report, outlining our progress against our 2030 ESG Action Plan. Our CEO, Simon Pryce explains: “For us, ESG isn’t just a nice to have – it is a commercial driver that helps us accelerate the achievement of our long-term objectives. Sustainability is a priority for most of our customers who regularly tell us that they require effective solutions to help meet their environmental goals, operational objectives, cost reduction targets and compliance needs. "We’re helping to meet this need via our growing range of Better World products, sustainability solutions and support to low carbon industries. Within our own business, we are also making good progress against the four global goals we set out in our action plan." Packaging sustainability is a critical issue for our customers. They want to know that we are taking proactive measures to reduce the amount of packaging used, while increasing the amount of recycled content and recyclable materials to minimise waste. Packaging intensity is one of our non-financial KPIs and is included in our SLL targets. In 2023/24, our packaging intensity reduced by 8% from 2022/23 and by 35% from 2019/20. We continued to reduce overall packaging tonnage by using more reusable eco-totes and pallets in our internal replenishment systems and automated packaging machines to produce made-to-fit transit cartons that save space and reduce waste. Reusable plastic collars were introduced and plastic pallets were increased for inventory replenishments between RS locations in EMEA. This has significantly reduced waste across the organisation. We have made progress in switching to more sustainable packaging materials across our regions this year to support our customers: RS in EMEA: we moved to brown packaging boxes which are made from 100% recycled material. 📦 RS in Americas: we increased the proportion of packaging made with over 50% recycled content from 15% by weight in 2022/23 to 46% in 2023/24. ⚖️ RS in the UK, France, Italy and Germany: we replaced plastic tape with paper tape sealing to reduce plastic consumption by four tonnes and make it easier for customers to recycle. ♻️ Combined, these efforts mean that over 53% of total packaging by weight is made from materials that contain at least 50% recycled content. This represents a 6 percentage points increase in recycled content from 2022/23. At the end of 2023/24, 94% of our packaging was reusable or recyclable, unchanged from 2022/23. In 2024/25, we will develop the next phase of our packaging strategy, including our initiatives, investment plans and a review of our 2030 packaging targets to identify further opportunities for action. #ESG #AdvancingSustainability #Packaging #ForABetterWorld
