Last night I enjoyed a wonderful evening full of networking with some of the best of the best from the education sector at the EducationInvestor awards. HubGem didn’t take home the win but I’m so proud to be recognised at this level, we were one of the smallest businesses there 🥂 It was great to catch up with colleagues and customers, huge well done to all the finalists and winners - so many inspiring and innovative stories. 👏🏼

On 6 June 1944, 80 years ago, the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies undertook the largest seaborne invasion in military history, known as D-day. As well as those from the UK, D-day forces included sailors, soldiers, and airmen from the USA, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland and others. Our school, at that time known as The Royal School was commandeered by the Admiralty and historians have recently discovered that many of the top Secret charts used to plan the invasion were drawn here. https://lnkd.in/eVkJy7u3 So, on this special day of commemoration we remember those who gave their lives at home and abroad during the D-Day landings, whose sacrifice enables us all to enjoy the peace and freedom we have today. #DDAY80 #Lestweforget

Earlier this month, more than 130 teachers and students from years 7 to 13 across 7 GDST schools participated in an inspirational sustainability event at University College of London’s MechSpace building in London. Our Nurse team at RHB is completely invaluable, playing a vital part in the care and well-being of all our students, whether boarding or day. Find out more below 👇 Sister Rebecca Purchase Sister Rebecca Purchase heads up our team, and has been at RHSB for 10 years. Nursing career: She has been a nurse for 31 years, building up an amazing amount of experience working as an A&E nurse in hospitals including RUH, Bristol, Weston and Newport. Best thing about the role: “The best thing, without a doubt, is working with the students. It is very busy, working across the whole school, but so rewarding. Here it is always possible to give each student the best care possible. I also love watching the students grow from year 6’s and 7’s into Sixth formers.” Sister Liz Hawkes Time in post at RHB: 4 years Nursing career: Sister Liz Hawkes has been a nurse since 2012, working in pediatric nursing, including at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. What do you like most about your job: “Working as a team and using each of our individual strengths and experience to support the students.” Sister Vicky Matthews Time in post at RHB: 4.5 years. Nursing career: She has worked in nursing for 26 years, mainly in pediatric nursing. She works half the week at RHSB, and the rest of the week on the children’s ward at RUH Best thing about your job: “When you make a difference. When the students leave you, and you know you have done something to help and support them. There’s also never a dull moment!”

Best of luck to all students during exam season – and to their ever-supportive parents and families. We offer as much academic and pastoral support as we can to help students prepare for exams and to help manage their nerves and exam anxiety. One of the roles of our wonderful Exam Officer, Kathryn Schofield, is to help students feel more at ease when stepping into an exam room, and how to manage their feelings. Our aim is not only to help students now, but also in the future, as they go through other stressful times in their lives. "Feeling nervous is normal – everyone feels nervous at times. However, we can learn how we control that nervous energy and make it work for us in a positive way."
