This week, our CSO, Deepika Rajesh is attending #ISSCR2024 in Hamburg, joining 4,000 other scientists to discuss the latest developments in #stemcell research. We're excited to invite fellow researchers to visit our poster (no. 230), titled "Advancing Cultivated Pork: The Role of Porcine Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells in Sustainable Meat Production". Our research highlights the unique characteristics of porcine iPSCs. Our cells proliferate rapidly under optimised conditions, retain pluripotency and show robust differentiation potential. Bioconversion rates are high, making them ideal for accelerating the development of #cultivatedmeat. Connect with Deepika at the conference or get in touch to learn more about our cells and how they can contribute to a more sustainable food system.
Roslin Technologies
Biotechnology Research
A single cell can make a world of difference. We are on a mission to improve protein production through disruptive tech.
About us
Based outside Edinburgh, Roslin Technologies Limited is an ambitious food and agriculture technology company which creates disruptive biotechnologies to improve how proteins are made. Our core capabilities lie in developing and commercialising a suite of unique animal stem cells and resources for the nascent global cultivated meat industry. We were the first company to commercialise pluripotent stem cells which continually self-renew and are able differentiate into the fat and muscle tissue required in the cultivated meat industry. In addition, we are now focussing our R&D on addressing key challenges in the sector including production cost reduction and process scale-up. We have developed unique animal cells that work; our cells can self-renew forever and differentiate into any tissue, including muscle and fat. Our cells are favourable for cultivated meat production since they address consumer concerns, make meat more affordable, and simplify regulatory approvals. Besides cells for cultivated meat, we continue to look for other biotechnologies that help us make protein production more sustainable.

The annual conference of ESACT - European Society for Animal Cell Technology has kicked off in our home city of Edinburgh! We were delighted to participate in a panel on #cultivatedmeat on Sunday, chaired by Prof. Simon Best OBE FRSE, with Jonathan Dempsey from our team, alongside Ricardo Martins Gouveia from 3D Bio-Tissues and Martina Miotto, PhD from CellRev. Sharing further insights on our work with animal #iPSC and #ESC cell lines, Sarah Ho, Madeleine Carter and Niamh Hyland presented their scientific posters, which are on display at the conference. If you're here, let us know!

It was great to attend the Cultivate conference in Sheffield this week. Our VP Development, Jef Pinxteren, spoke on a panel on the future of cultivated meat alongside Clarisse B. from Cellcraft, Petra Hanga from Quest , Vijay K. from CPI and moderated by Dr Neil Stephens. Jef described how a successful journey in the scale up of cultivated meat must start with performing and well-characterised cells, allowing work on media cost reduction and a robust process to progress at pace. The panel all agreed that the industry is going through some reflection but that the lessons learned will help us all emerge stronger. Huge thanks to Dr. Alexandra Sexton and the organisers for inviting us to speak.

We're excited to announce that we have joined Cellular Agriculture Europe! As a coalition of companies, CAE is playing a central role in engaging with policymakers and regulators in Europe about the benefits of cellular agriculture. It's fantastic to join this group of entrepreneurs, innovators, and food lovers!
🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟 We're delighted to announce that Roslin Technologies, an Edinburgh-based company developing the unique animal stem cells that make #cellularagriculture possible, has officially joined our Association as a new associate member. We're beyond happy to have them on board and can't wait to work together. Here's to a fruitful partnership! 💼🚀 #CellAgriEU #cultivatedmeat

It is great to see the UK government supporting engineering biology. Its national vision sets out priorities and ambitions for the sector, backed up with £2b of funding. In the end, companies and their teams are the ones to make the vision reality and we're privileged to be part of the ecosystem. Today our CEO, Ernst, was invited to 10 Downing St to share our thoughts on required policy actions. It was fantastic to see friends from the cultivated meat sector represented too: Ed Steele from Hoxton Farms, Will Milligan from Extracellular and also Lorraine Kerr from Edinburgh Innovations / The University of Edinburgh.

Our Chairperson, Andy, and CEO, Ernst, are on the same panel at The Times Scotland Life Sciences Summit! They've both promised it will to be more exciting than a Roslin Tech Board meeting 😉
I am looking forward to the The Times and Sunday Times Scotland Life Sciences Summit at The University of Aberdeen on Wednesday, 20 March. I am sure Andy Porter will facilitate a lively discussion with Rebecca Andersen, Abdo Alnabulsi, Dave Tudor, and myself about what works (and what doesn't) when you are commercialising novel biotechnologies....
