We strive to ensure that anyone with a disability can benefit from the unique bond between humans and horses.

About us

RDA is a UK based national charity that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to get meaningful and lasting therapy and health benefits from riding and carriage driving. A key part of the work is also to recognise and celebrate the achievenent of the participants and this lead to success from small steps forweard to going all the way to winning a Paralympic Gold medal. We work through a network of 500 centres acorss the UK and rely on the input of volunteers at all of these centres. Over 30,000 people of all ages currently benefit from the activity, but we know that for each of these people there are about another 4 people on a waiting list. We are desperately trying to change this and although we have expanded by a third since 2009, we need more suppport and more volunteers to make this change. We need volunteers of all backgrounds and with a variety of skills - not only those with experience of horses. Whatever you do, we'll provide all the training and suppport you need. If you want to talk through some of the options, get in touch. Go on! Get involved and help make a massive change to someone's life.

ParalympicsGB has confirmed the four para equestrian athlete and horse combinations set to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The entire RDA community send our congratulations to Mari, Georgia, Sophie and Natasha, their horses and support teams. We are so excited to see what this talented squad can achieve, and very proud that RDA has played a part in their journey. Earlier today we were lucky enough to catch up with Mari Durward-Akhurst (Grade 1) who will make her Paralympic Games debut in Paris, Georgia Wilson and Sakura (Grade 2) who made their Games debut at Tokyo 2020, and Natasha Baker (Grade 3) who has been selected for her fourth Games. Mari told us: ‘I am really excited and happy, it’s a dream come true to be selected for the Paralympics and I would love to medal’. Mari shared fond memories of Penniwells RDA, and all the volunteers who have supported and encouraged her along the way in achieving her bigger goals. Georgia explained how one of her very first coaches at RDA motivated and inspired her: ‘she understood everything that I found difficult, but didn’t give me an excuse to give up. We always found a way, no matter how silly it sounded, it worked and made me want to keep going and try different things’. Natasha shared her hopes for inspiring a new generation of para equestrians: ‘This team has such such a wealth of experience, and fresh faces, and hopefully this will show that no matter what your background or where you come from - through therapeutic riding, from a horsey or a non-horsey background - if you work really hard anything is achievable.’ Read the full release ⭐ https://lnkd.in/e9rj-cBR 📸 British Equestrian / Jon Stroud #Equestrian #ParaEquestrian #ParaDressage
