🌟 We're thrilled to share the incredible success of our first-ever XP Work Experience Programme, hosted by the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science! 🌟 Last week, we welcomed 24 enthusiastic lower sixth students from 15 schools across Northern Ireland. They dove into a whirlwind of exciting activities ranging from eSports and Cybersecurity to Cloud Computing, Electronics, and VR/AR. This innovative approach to work experience allowed students to explore the tech sector hands-on, guided by our brilliant academics and professionals. The highlight? Our XP finale hackathon, where students worked in teams to conceive, design, and pitch solutions to one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The presentations were dynamic and inspiring, covering topics from ocean cleanup to healthy eating and reducing vehicle emissions. 🎉 Congratulations to our winning teams! 🎉 🏆 Most Innovative Project - Green Future - Egan Maguire - Cerys Cranston - Cody Livingstone - Anthony McConville 🏆 Best Researched Project - Emission Regen - Paul Conlon - Alasdair Davison - Anna Stronge - Jaynie Gwynne 🏆 Best Presentation - AquaRefract - Susannah Redmond - Mateusz Grzeszkowiak - Diarmuid Grimley - Christian Beaumont The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with students loving the diverse range of activities and hands-on experiences. We're already planning to make next year's programme even bigger and better, with more days, more activities, and more schools involved. Future Ready Skills for Leaders New York🗽: Last week, I was part of a group of students from Queen's University Belfast who travelled to New York as part of the FRS for Leaders trip. During the trip, I had the opportunity to learn more about sustainability and see how some of the leading companies, organizations and universities in New York are working towards their sustainability goals. The valuable knowledge and insights which I gained on the trip will go towards helping Queen’s University Belfast achieve their goal of net zero by 2040. Other highlights of the trip included networking with industry professionals and fellow students. Thank you to the Careers, Employability and Skills at Queen's University Belfast, Carmel Colton and Ruairi McGrillen for this amazing opportunity. Additionally, I would like to thank all the companies, organizations and universities that hosted us. Grateful for this opportunity to grow personally and professionally. #QUBNewYork2024.
