About us

For 160 years, Transport for London has kept London moving. It has been one of the city’s biggest innovators; an inventive creator and creative designer. Places for London, TfL’s new and financially independent property company, is its latest innovation. We are here to unlock more of the potential of TfL land, creating a greener, kinder and more connected London for everyone. As part of TfL we've been supporting over 1,500 businesses in stations and railway arches and on high streets. Now, as Places for London, we’re working to release more of the untapped opportunity in TfL’s property portfolio – whether it’s a disused plot in outer London or an empty arch in the city centre – to create more of the spaces that Londoners need to thrive. And we'll find new ways to partner with and celebrate the businesses we already support, as we move towards a greener and greater London. With 5,500+ acres, stretching across almost every borough, TfL is already one of London’s largest landowners. At Places for London, we're on a mission to help it become one of the most impactful too.

🙌 It was great to collaborate with Places for London's Joint Venture Partner, The Earls Court Development Company (ECDC) recently, with a site visit for students to its regeneration project at the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre. Year 10 students (aged 14-15) from Fulham Cross Academy were given an overview of the project designed to bring the wonder back to Earls Court by transforming the 40-acre derelict site into an innovative mixed-use development that is exemplary in its approach to sustainability. Students were shown a model of the site and led through the various consultation stages. They even got to climb onto ‘The Table’ – a concrete structure that looms over the site providing a perfect view of the work in progress. Thank you ECDC for hosting us, it was amazing to gain an insight into the exciting development plans ahead! #constructionsitetour #careersinconstruction

🌎 Today is World Youth Skills Day, where we celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, work, and entrepreneurship.   Here at Places for London, we are proud to be working with a number of partners, including Construction Youth Trust, Barratt London, The Earls Court Development Company, Grainger PLC and Helical plc as part of our Educational Engagement Programme, to champion young people and to equip them with the skills, education and training they need to thrive personally and professionally. This includes hosting work experience programmes for students from our partner schools in boroughs across the city, including London Borough of Tower Hamlets, London Borough of Lambeth and London Borough Of Southwark. Recently, we hosted 10 students for a week at our Places for London office, where we tasked them with creating a development plan for our Wembley Park site which they later presented to a panel of senior staff here at Places for London. As part of the experience, Barratt London hosted a tour of the site, bringing the experience to life. It was also a great opportunity for students to network and to gain an insight into the work of our property development and sustainability teams.   Delivering programmes like these allows us to promote lifelong learning opportunities and provide young people with the skills they need to shape a sustainable future. We held a responsible business workshop for our hospitality customers at Places for London yesterday. The workshop brought together the small businesses taking part in our year-long responsible business skills programme, with our partners Heart of the City and Cushman & Wakefield, and our large business ambassadors Caffè Nero, Lola's Cupcakes and The Savanna. We were lucky to be joined by The Sustainable Restaurant Association. Our programme runs until the end of February 2025 and as ever we are learning more from our customers and they from each other than they learn from us; a truer partnership. We’re delighted to be able to sponsor this kind of programme as part of becoming London’s most impactful landlord and landowner. Supporting the community that our customers already create means we can drive more of the inclusive growth we all want. We’ll have another workshop in Hackney in the autumn. We’d encourage any small businesses to look at what business support is out there. We are loving working with Heart of the City and there is also loads of help through the Mayor’s single front door to support, Grow London Local. Thank you so much to Lisa, Paul, Asher, Will, Matthew, Samantha and our programme lead from Heart of the City, Olivia.
