Today we remember the Piper Alpha disaster that sadly occurred on 6 July 1988. 36 years ago, 167 lives were lost, leaving an everlasting mark on our industry. Safety remains at the heart of what we do, as we strive to ensure that the energy workforce can go to work and come home safely to their families. #PiperAlpha

Congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party on their 2024 UK General Election victory.     As the safety and skills body for the energy industry, OPITO is committed to working closely with the new UK Government and all relevant officials to ensure that our skilled energy workforce is well-supported into the future.    These are challenging yet dynamic times for the industry. We are optimistic about the future and trust that the new government will prioritise the energy workforce, keeping people at the centre of their policies.    A skilled and competent workforce is essential for the UK to achieve its net-zero ambitions, reinforcing energy security, and to continue to lead the way as a world leader in climate-conscious decision-making, and energy technology development.    We also want to highlight the OPITO manifesto. This outlines our asks and offers for the new government. Stephen Marcos Jones recently visited Aberdeen Science Centre for a tour of the #OPITO Theatre of Energy. The OPITO Theatre of Energy offers an immersive experience through three engaging activities; the Energy Show, the Energy Game and the Energy Wall. Stephen put himself to the test trying out the interactive activities during his visit to meet with Bryan Snelling, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Science Centre. OPITO has a long-standing commitment to developing the skills of the next generation through STEM activities like the OPITO Theatre of Energy.
