For this weekly satellite image, we have this astonishing image from the island of Socotra in Yemen. Socotra is known for its intact and unspoiled nature, with a wide variety of endemic flora and fauna that can be found nowhere else in the world. The island is famous for its iconic dragon blood trees, which have a unique, umbrella-shaped appearance and are a major tourist attraction. Yesterday, we celebrated a major milestone with the official signature with the European Space Agency - ESA to develop a high-resolution optical constellation, funded through RRF, by the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance in Greece, and delivered in collaboration with the Hellenic Space Center. The constellation of seven spacecraft will comprise two types of microsatellites: - Two with Very High Resolution cameras, of less than one meter. - Five will carry a suite of High Resolution multispectral and hyperspectral cameras, alongside Internet of Things (IoT) and Automatic Identification System (AIS) receivers. We would like to thank all our partners and collaborators, including our major subcontractors in Greece, Nova ICT, EMTECH, the Libre Space Foundation, Planetek Hellas, Adamant Composites and PRIORITY. #OpenCosmos #OpenConstellation #OpticalConstellation #Greece

LacunaSat-2B, a nanosatellite built by Open Cosmos, has successfully completed its mission and deorbited sustainably! It was crucial in enabling global connectivity by collecting data from Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices in remote locations. The satellite has supported numerous applications, from tracking elephants in Africa to collecting vital environmental data from isolated regions. This satellite deorbit aligns with ESA's aim of achieving zero debris by 2030. This milestone demonstrates Open Cosmos' commitment to responsible space operations and sustainable space exploration! The OpenConstellation satellite HAMMER can identify ships in orbit autonomously and create alerts capable of delivering live Earth intelligence in minutes! The satellite runs on-board SPACE:AI computer and analytic solutions from Ubotica Technologies, that, paired with unparalleled onboard processing and inter-satellite link capabilities, allow the satellite to do near real-time detection of ships. This has enabled for instance the swift identification of all ships in an image capture of 20 x 40-kilometres, as shown below. The key features onboard HAMMER comprehend the scene and deliver actionable intelligence to users on Earth, setting a new standard for live Earth Observation. This satellite is supported by the Satellite Applications Catapult through the In-Orbit Demonstration Programme. Reach out to us if you are interested in exploring the power of this service in your fisheries, borders, harbours or marine nature reserves. #OpenCosmos #HAMMER #IntersatelliteLink #EarthObservation
