“Get out there, talk to the community, get them to understand the economic opportunity that comes with this industry. One thing everyone agrees on is if they hit that light switch they want the power to come on, but what they don't realize is that this is not a guarantee and we need to get that message out there so we can prioritize nuclear” stated Director of the Virginia Department of Energy, Glenn Davis at #SMR2024 this morning. As a hub for data centers, a lot of industry players will be bringing their own power to Virginia using nuclear, enabling Virginia to hit their goal of doubling their energy supply in the next 15 years. A big thank you to Glenn for joining us on stage, and to Marsha McDaniel for moderating this insightful fireside chat. #newnuclear #smallmodularreactor #advancedreactor #datacenter

Day 2 of #SMR2024 has kicked off with a presentation from the wonderful Julie Kozeracki, Director of Strategy, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Loans Program Office. She explained how nuclear power offers a unique value proposition to aid in achieving net zero goals by 2050 and why the LPO update the Nuclear Liftoff Report: 1.      Unprecedented load growth: utilities are now issuing extreme IRP updates 2.      Role of tech companies: growth of Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc. now at risk from sourcing sufficient power for AI, data centers, etc. 3.      Renewed interest in AP1000s: utilities now saying they value having a constructed design, a supply chain, and a workforce 4.      Consortium and insurance: utility activity and draft legislation around multiple utilities organizing around a single design Thanks for joining us again Julie! #newnuclear #advancedreactor #smallmodularreactor #newnuclear

“Everyone now seems to talk about nuclear!”. With a significant shift in nuclears public perception due to substantial changes in policy lessening security and environmental concerns, new markets are ready to decarbonize and are setting their sights on SMRs. On Day 1 of #SMR2024, new and established leaders from across the industry took to the stage for a panel session on ‘Decarbonising hard-to-abate industries’. Here’s the key takeaways: “Our goal is to deliver data centre infrastructure in a way that provides the least environmental impact and we believe advanced nuclear is helpful in achieving that” Erin Henderson, PhD, MBA, PMP, Microsoft “The generation for technology is here and in a few more years it will be ready for deployment - this is the generation which will decarb technology” William Labbe, President and CEO, ARC Clean Technology New nuclear is at risk of missing the window of demand from new markets. There is a huge opportunity emerging from data centers and the industry must prioritize earlier collaboration if the interest and investment is to continue growing. With conversations maturing in the last few years, new nuclear is almost ready to become leaders in decarbonization, and first deals are being rolled out! Its an exciting time to be a part of the industry! Thanks again to our incredible speakers for sharing their insights! Mark W. Nelson, Adam Stein, PhD #smallmodularreactor #advancedreactor #newnuclear #hardtoabateindustries

“Last time co2 concentration was this high on this planet was 3 million years ago. Shame on us if we blow it - this is our last chance.” – stated Peter Sena, President of Southern Nuclear yesterday at #SMR2024. The panel session focusing on navigating innovation: streamlining regulatory paths for advanced reactor licenses highlighted the importance of avoiding delays and staying ahead of the curve when it comes to regulation and licensing methods. Here’s what are experts had to say: 🎤Michelle Catts, MBA, SVP Nuclear Oversight, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, “We need over 3,000 reactors, and if we started deploying those operationally by 2030, this means 167 reactors per year coming into operation. So how do we actually get there? We’re not going to get to 2050 without some real streamlining of licencing guidelines. A lot can be done on the industry side and the government side. So there’s the “why”. 🎤Doug True, Chief Nuclear Officer and Senior Vice President of Technical and Regulatory Services, Nuclear Energy Institute “If you look back at the history of what has delayed nuclear power in the past, it’s not nuclear safety but environmental reasons - we have to keep the door open for public to engage and have lots of opportunities to do that.” 🎤@Scott Morris, Deputy Director for Operations, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, “Absolute focus on safety and security is imperative, but we are now in the position to use data and AI, and other methods to innovate.” 🎤Corey Hinderstein, Deputy Administrator for Defense Nuclear Non-proliferation, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) “The more we can work on collaborative approaches for export, the more we can help level the playing field”. 🎤Pete Sena – “Just because we have done it year over year in the past doesn’t mean we have to do it like that in the future, now it is about how do we make it happen, together”. Securing early development capital has never been more crucial for the SMR industry. But with upfront costs creating a lot of risk for a single entity to assume, as well as market changes such as the recent uranium import ban sending shockwaves through the US energy market,  – how do we ensure the long term benefits of nuclear to the investor? During a keynote panel session at SMR & Advanced Reactor 2024, our industry expects gave their insights on how to get the industry forward, here are the main takeaways…   - Have an education process to go through with legislators, utility executives and people in general (rate payers, those who are impacted) - this industry has changed - talking about reliable, synchronous generation, very safe production, very free power and base load capacity - a practical step is to educate people. - We need to have more visibility on timelines, milestones and cost before investors lock in. - Regulatory advancements are urgent and critical to industry success. - End users need to be active in the process of derisking the project upfront - donating sites, equity contribution - getting them involved in the process to de risk the project is important Huge thank you to our speakers - Judi Greenwald. “The time is now. We have the right partners and technology to react now, we are ready to go” stated Nicole Holmes, CCO, GE-Hitachi. An insightful panel this morning at #SMR2024 with Roland Berger, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Holtec International, and copenhagen atomics on building a global nuclear economy. As expected, there are obstacles to prepare for such as structuring agreements for fuel price fluctuations, and aligning with government reports, but regulated utilities worldwide and leading developers are ready to take the lead. With international opportunities growing and collaborative progress being made across Europe and the USA, it is clear the industry is ready to progress from blueprints to breakthroughs. Thank you to Nicole, Mads Steenberg, Robert Zabors, and Richard Springman, Ph.D. for joining us. #nucleareconomy #newnuclear #nuclearenergy #smallmodularreactor

On behalf of Flibe Energy, CEO David Hanson took to the SMR & Advanced Reactor 2024 stage for a keynote presentation on ‘The journey to SMR commercialization’. Key takeaway: SMR’s are not about ‘small reactors’. It's about small *ENOUGH* reactors that we can iterate quickly, and turn a bespoke project into a deployable product. It's about obtaining the economy of repeatability. Mr Hanson announced Flibe’s new Lithium Fluoride Low-Enriched Uranium Reactor (LFLEUR) which does exactly that, designed to be constructable, deliverable, and repeatable from the beginning. Flibe are ready to accept orders on the first 8GW of these thermal spectrum, fluid filled, molten salt reactors! Thanks so much to DJ and the team for joining us as Gold Sponsors at #SMR2024! #moltensaltreactor #smallmodularreactor #newnuclear #advancedreactor
