"The UK's life sciences sector is a jewel in the crown in many senses”. Hear from Marie-Andrée Gamache and our new Head of Public Affairs, Rob Thomas, as they talk about how the UK is brimming with potential for economic growth and groundbreaking innovation, and how we are here to support the new government in advancing this vision. To benefit UK patients, a whole-system approach is needed, where all stakeholders in the ecosystem come together to contribute their ideas and commit to delivering impactful solutions. We look forward to working with the new government to build a stronger, healthier future for all, reducing the lives lost to cancer and cardiovascular disease. #NovartisOK #LifeSciences #OurCommitment

Every year, birthdays bring the opportunity to make a wish. At this year's #NHSConfedExpo, we decided to extend this tradition by inviting attendees to leave their wishes for the NHS on our tree of hope. We were overwhelmed by the response, receiving over a hundred heartfelt messages. Among these messages, we were incredibly honoured to receive a special wish from NHS CEO Amanda Pritchard, reinforcing our shared commitment to putting patients at the centre of everything we do. ConfedExpo truly embodies the essence of partnership, which is why we are immensely proud to have partnered with NHS Confederation to create a zone dedicated to partnerships and system collaboration. Our Community of Practice Wall and Learning Theatre sessions served as platforms for UK health leaders to come together and discuss crucial topics such as the inequalities in breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. Our brilliant team showcased our dedication to partnering with healthcare systems in order to address health inequalities so that all patients – no matter who they are – can have fuller, healthier lives. As the NHS celebrates its 76th birthday, you too can make a wish for the NHS. Join us in commemorating this milestone and add your wish to our digital tree of hope here: https://lnkd.in/eNfUcmnc

We’re calling on the new UK government to include Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in the newborn screening programme without delay. One baby is born with SMA every five days in the UK. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent irreversible, life-changing damage. Yet, SMA is still not included in the UK newborn screening programme. Over 65% of European Union member states already routinely screen for SMA, including Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. The introduction of newborn screening could lead to lifetime savings of over £62 million for the NHS. Urgent action is needed to ensure that newborn screening for SMA is implemented nationwide. The case for change is clear, and the time to act is now. Watch the video to understand why #EveryMomentMatters for babies born with SMA. #NovartisOK

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the main causes of death and disability in the UK. However, leading a healthy lifestyle can greatly prevent it. Sadly, many people only realise this when it's too late and they end up in A&E. That's why, during British Heart Week, we took action to raise awareness among our associates about the importance of understanding lipid profiles, ‘knowing their numbers’ and how they affect our heart health. Teaming up with LetsGetChecked, we provided free cholesterol testing and organised an educational event on cardiovascular health. Our main goal was to highlight how crucial it is to take charge of our heart health and identify our own personal risks. Early detection and proactive management can make a significant difference. Join us in spreading awareness, education and action for a healthier future. #NovartisOK

On general election day, we’re reminded of the tremendous potential the UK holds as a life sciences superpower and how urgent it is that we finally tap into it to boost economic growth and deliver game-changing innovation to more patients more quickly.   As an innovative medicines company working to reimagine medicine to improve and extend people’s lives, we are proud to remain dedicated to championing the health and lives of UK citizens.   While this country already has brilliant ideas and strategies in place for Life Sciences, what we truly need now is a concerted effort to prioritise and bring these visions to life. The O'Shaughnessy review on clinical trials and the Vallance and McLean review on pro-innovation regulation are great examples of this potential. In recent years we’ve seen policy frameworks and approaches that recognise the UK life sciences as a catalyst for growth. The life sciences vision, which was co-developed between government and industry in 2021, outlined exactly the right approach to generate economic growth in life sciences whilst underpinning a more efficient and effective health system.   With a new government on the horizon, the urgent priority must be transforming this rhetoric into reality and accelerating delivery, unlocking the potential within the UK life sciences landscape, deliver economic growth and ultimately improving health outcomes for patients.   #OurCommitment #NovartisOK

The decision to have newborn screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in the UK has been further delayed. This means that babies born with SMA are still only treated once symptoms appear, leading to irreversible damage. Despite the availability of potentially life-changing treatments, the NHS is currently spending on innovative treatments as well as lifelong support and interventions for these babies. The human cost is devastating: since 2019, an estimated 345 babies have been born with SMA, all of whom will have irreversible disabilities despite the fact that the first SMA treatment has been available in the UK since that time. We are joining forces with the SMA and rare disease communities to urge the UK National Screening Committee to make a decision on whether newborn screening for SMA will be implemented in this country as soon as possible. Find out more and read the recommendations from our policy report here: https://lnkd.in/eznXsf9R Because for babies born with SMA, #EveryMomentMatters. #NovartisOK

Living with a heart condition and keeping on top of post-event recovery can be stressful and isolating – some men struggle to open up about this. Managing cholesterol levels is important for us all but it’s especially important for those who, like Raj Nath, have had a cardiovascular event. This #MensHealthWeek, we want to encourage people to speak up about their health. Raj shared his experience with his sons, and they helped him #GetBackInTheGame following his cardiovascular event, as well as being a huge point of motivation for his recovery. You can keep the conversation going by encouraging your loved ones, particularly men, to get their cholesterol levels checked and keep on top of their recovery process through diet and exercise. People who have had a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke should have their cholesterol levels checked at least once a year. To find out how you can get your levels tested or to find out more about helping your loved ones manage their cholesterol, visit the Get Back in the Game web page on the HEART UK - The Cholesterol Charity website: https://lnkd.in/evu7ifUY. #NovartisOK

There’s an undeniable power in sharing our own stories to inspire positive change. In honour of #MensHealthWeek, we listened to our colleagues’ advice and insights on breaking the stigma surrounding men’s health issues, and ways to encourage others to seek help when they might be feeling hesitant. This week, and every week, let’s remember the importance of taking charge of our wellbeing. Whether it’s for ourselves, our brothers, fathers, sons, partners, or friends, proactively addressing and managing our health is crucial. And it all starts with making informed decisions about our lifestyle choices and seeking appropriate medical support when necessary. Join us in watching the video and supporting the important men in our lives. #FathersDay #NovartisOK Beatriz Mendonça da Fonseca Alfred Lakeman-Brown Cindy Parisius Mohamed Tammam Kia Matthews Oli Lucas
