We've recently launched the Community Red Cell Service for patients with sickle cell, thalassaemia and rare inherited blood disorders! 📞 This service offers support, clinical care, advice, and advocacy for red cell patients. You can call 020 3316 8853, or be referred by your GP, haematologist, or any other member of your healthcare team. Care and advice can be provided over the phone or in person at your home, the George Marsh Centre or the Camden and Islington Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre. If you are a sickle cell, thalassaemia or other inherited blood disorder patient, don't forget that the new Hyperacute Unit North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is now open! Patients requiring urgent care or support should call 07773735842 and our hyperacute service will advise and direct you to the best place. The hotline is open 24/7. This unit provides specialist treatment to red cell patients when they need it most, allowing them to bypass A&E. This complements bypass arrangements already in place Whittington and University College London Hospital. Our award-winning Wellbeing Bus is an incredible example of how the North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS) is working together to improve the health and wellbeing of care home staff. During training sessions to learn how take care home residents’ vital signs such as blood pressure, care home staff were often found to have high blood pressure themselves.  That’s why the Wellbeing Bus pilot began in April 2023, with an aim to pick up cardiovascular disease, assess diabetes risk, provide health coaching, and give staff the opportunity for a holistic consultation with a clinician. To make access easy, the bus travels to different care homes across North Central London so that staff can benefit and learn from the service. We were honoured to be at the official opening of the new, £82m, state-of-the-art Highgate East Mental Health Hospital 🏥, part of North London Mental Health Partnership’s (NLMHP) plans to transform mental health care.   Broadcaster, journalist and mental health campaigner Alastair Campbell unveiled a plaque marking the opening, with Jeremy Corbyn MP, Islington North’s newly elected Independent MP. They were joined by service users, staff and representatives from Camden and Islington Councils and the NHS.   This fantastic, light-filled, 78-bed facility represents a significant investment in mental health services for people across Islington, Haringey, Camden and further afield. Hot on the heels of Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP and Amanda Pritchard, we hosted NHS Confederation's Matthew Taylor for a whirlwind tour of primary and community care in North London. Dr Ammara Hughes and her team at Bloomsbury Surgery in #Camden did an excellent job of demonstrating the work they are doing to improve access, experience and outcomes for local residents and take the pressure off our local hospitals. The practice works closely with local hospitals University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with UCLPartners. Mustafa Hassan and Jonathan Gardner then led a tour of the Wood Green Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) opened in late 2022 in the #Haringey shopping centre and provides the first MRI and CT testing capacity in the borough, run by Whittington Health. Both provide innovative services in the community, tackling health inequalities and improving access to care and patient experience. It was a privilege to have Wes Streeting visit Camden this week to find out more about the amazing work happening at Abbey Medical Centre. Together with our partners across the system, we look forward to working more closely with the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the mental and physical health of our residents in North Central London.
