Thanks for having us – we were left truly blown away by this project! This week my colleague Lorna Hogger and I had the pleasure of visiting the future site of the Global Centre of Rail Excellence in Onllwyn, Wales – a world-leading, net zero test facility for railway infrastructure and rolling stock. The potential impact of this £400M project cannot be overstated: locally in Neath Port Talbot, nationally at a vital time for Britain’s rail industry and internationally with a client base all over Europe. We’re very excited to be showcasing its development in our new, flagship Railway Futures Gallery.
It was fantastic to welcome Lorna Hogger and Rob Scargill from the National Railway Museum to the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence this week. The National Railway Museum in York is a jewel in the rail crown - a wonderfully vivid and exciting place to learn about the history of the railways. Lorna and Rob were with us to learn more about what we are doing at GCRE and to understand our plans to develop a site for world class research, testing and innovation here in South Wales. The South Wales coalfield is a place where industry, mining and rail have been fused together for more than 200 years and GCRE is one of the next chapters in that rich industrial story. GCRE has a role in working with partners like the National Railway Museum to tell the story of rail's future and the innovations, technologies and purpose of its next two centuries. Its something we are very keen to work with Lorna, Rob and colleagues on over the next few years. Thanks for coming, both! #GCRE #GlobalCentreOfRailExcellence #RailInnovation #History #Futures

Really proud to have taken part in the People, Pride and Progress project with National Railway Museum and my fellow London North Eastern Railway colleague, Kris McGee. Thinking back to how much energy I used to use up pretending to be someone else, and the constant dread of being outed at work, it was always going to be impossible for me to give my all in my job. While I’m happy to say my own experience has been really positive since then, even today I think visibility and the sharing of stories is a good thing. If a project like this had existed in 2001, I think it would have made me feel a heck of a lot less scared to be me, a lot earlier! 🏳️🌈
Check out this short clip of the moment Craig came out in a swimming pool…! The National Railway Museum is collating the stories from the LGBTQIA+ community who have worked in, or are currently working in the rail sector as part of their 'People, Pride and Progress' project. Kris (Social Content Manager) sat down with Craig (Employee Experience Business Partner (ED&I Lead)) to learn how attitudes to LGBTQIA+ issues have changed over the last two decades. Our collections team are looking for volunteers to take part in this important project that will record the stories and memories of the LGBTQIA+ community that have worked in the rail industry. They are looking for older and/or retired members of the community, particularly those that worked under British Rail and in early privatisation, to share their experience and memories of working in the industry at that time. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please find out more and how to get in touch here on our website: https://lnkd.in/eHR__wZU https://lnkd.in/eb2VD8RC #RailIndustry #Partnership #CorporatePartners

On this day in 1938, the A4 class locomotive, Mallard, raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph to set a new steam locomotive world speed record. That record still stands today!
