Mr B & Friends celebrated its 18th birthday this week!
I often joke that this is a picture from our first Board meeting, which I absolutely adore. The little fella with the mop of blonde hair is my eldest son Louis. The agency and Louis were born within 3 months of each other, and so much about the last 18 years in terms of parenting and agency ownership feels interlinked.
At first, I had no clue what I was doing (as a parent, and an owner), but by applying energy, instinct, asking for advice and trial and error I started to get things right, whether that was sales, pricing, winding or nappy changes - after a few months things did get easier and I started to find a bit of a rhythm.
As you can imagine, sleep didn't come easy in the first couple of years either and on many occasions I felt that I was running on adrenalin. That was OK, this is new, exciting and I was nurturing something amazing - I could catch up on sleep later. Getting through the first couple of years seemingly unscathed, was quite an achievement.
And as Louis started to grow, so too did the agency. Good times came quickly - first words, first steps, first pitch win, first employee - every first was incredible. And as a parent and an owner, confidence in what I was doing started to emerge. Yes, there were some setbacks along the way, that's life, but it was how I navigated those that enabled me to learn and continue growing.
Fast forward to 2024, and Louis has just finished his A Levels and has an exciting future to look forward to. As does Mr B & Friends. We have an incredibly talented team, doing incredible work for incredible clients. As you can imagine, I'm incredibly proud of both.
I wanted to give a quick shout out to John Moret and Alastair Mills our founding clients for the faith and trust you put in us back in 2006, and for continuing to be friends to the agency today. Of course a huge thank you for every client we've worked with and continue to partner with 🙌
Finally, a massive thanks to every single B'er who has been on our journey to adulthood, especially my friend Steve Richardson who helped to shape what we have become - what a ride it's been!
Happy birthday to us!!!
