NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT = CHANGES TO WORKING LIFE 🏢 🧑💼🌟 Whether you’re an employer or an employee the “A new deal for working people” green paper from the New Labour Government speak volumes 📣 It shouts loud and proud that there’s some big changes to working peoples’ rights. Here’s an overview of some of the proposals but what does this mean for you personally? Or your business? 1️⃣Flexible Working Rights: The government aims to enhance employees' rights to flexible working. This could involve making flexible working the default unless employers have a solid business reason to refuse. 2️⃣Minimum Wage Increase: A notable rise in the national minimum wage is expected, aimed at improving living standards and reducing income inequality. Employers will need to adjust their payrolls accordingly to comply with the new rates. 3️⃣Family Leave and Pay: Expansions to family leave and pay entitlements are on the agenda. This includes potential increases in maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave, as well as adjustments to statutory pay rates. 4️⃣Zero-Hour Contracts Regulation: Tighter regulations on zero-hour contracts may be introduced to ensure fair treatment and job security for workers. Employers using such contracts will need to review their practices to ensure compliance. 5️⃣Employee Health and Well-being: New measures to promote mental health and well-being in the workplace are expected. This includes mandatory mental health first aid training and enhanced support for employees experiencing mental health issues. 6️⃣Workplace Discrimination and Equality: Strengthened laws to combat workplace discrimination and promote equality are on the legislative agenda. This includes stricter enforcement of gender pay gap reporting and initiatives to address racial and disability discrimination. 7️⃣Employment status changes: Proposals to remove the blurred lines between workers and employees could mean big changes on rights to sick pay, holiday pay and maternity leave ect. 8️⃣IR35: Employment status changes would also impact the current IR35 Rules, making them simpler for both contractors and businesses. 9️⃣Unfair Dismissal Protections: the current 2-year qualifying period to bring a claim could be removed. If you’re an employer you need to perfect your hiring and onboarding process! These proposed changes are designed to create a more equitable and supportive working environment for all which is fantastic for working people….
