This week our Link Uganda team are excited to join the delegates to the International Day of Education post-event high level policy dialogue under the theme “Learning for Lasting Peace”. Last week we were honoured to host a delegation of VIPs at Link's offices to discuss education in #Ethiopia and share some of Link's milestone results in our 17 years working in the country. Many thanks to our guests for their time, interest and insight. We hope to continue to serve communities in Ethiopia for many years to come. The South Ethiopia Regional Education Board has scaled-up Link Education’s work on gender responsive pedagogy to a further 462 schools, over 12,000 teachers, and 450,000 learners. The Ministry of Education in Malawi is integrating Link’s inclusive accelerated learning programme across the country. In Uganda, three districts used Link’s experiences to strengthen education planning and accountability mechanisms. But why these innovations? What was needed to make scale-up happen? How did it start? Who was key in the decision-making process? Link Education is honoured and excited to have won a Global Partnership for Education KIX award funded by International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to help us answer these questions. Our research will explore which factors governments in Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda consider when scaling-up innovations that support gender equity, inclusion and safeguarding (GEIS). Using a number of GEIS focused Link interventions, such as school leadership training in Ethiopia, out of school literacy and numeracy programming in Malawi and community mobilisation in Uganda, this research will unpack how each activity supports GEIS and the mechanics of scale-up. The award will culminate with the production of “Guidelines on best practices in scaling-up GEI&S innovations” which will be used to strengthen the capacity of relevant stakeholders. The research is being led by Link Community Development Malawi and the Centre for Education Research and Training at Chancellor’s College in University of Malawi - UNIMA, with support from the Robert Owen Centre for Educational Change at the University of Glasgow, Link Community Development Uganda, Link Education Ethiopia and Link Education International. #GPEKIX
