How well does your workplace meet the different demands and needs of a hybrid workforce? Even though workplaces are getting better on average, when looking at those we’ve measured post-pandemic we see that sadly, some are still far from outstanding and are far from the experience that employees have when working from home. Building an outstanding workplace experience for everyone – however often they visit the office – is crucial to making hybrid working a success. The power of the outstanding workplace is that it superbly supports the experience of all its users, regardless of how often they visit: https://lnkd.in/exep9TB7 #HybridWorking #EmployeeExperience #PowerofPlace

How do your employees commute and how satisfied are they with their journey? Of the employees who spend 75-100% of their time in the office, only 69% reported feeling satisfied with their daily commute, leaving over one third of people still unsatisfied. Employees who are accustomed to remote work may find the return to commuting especially challenging, affecting their satisfaction and perception of the commute’s impact on their quality of life. So, if you have an outstanding office, can you change your employees’ perspective? Leesman can capture detailed data on the mode of transport, vehicle type, distance travelled, and commute satisfaction. This data is invaluable for understanding location attractiveness and workplace experience and informing travel benefit programs. “A lot of firms seem very fixed on the return to office and we’re trying to shift that focus. Instead of obsessing over getting people back to the office, they should focus on making sure everybody has an outstanding experience whenever they do go.” Our Chief Insights & Research Officer, Peggie Rothe, discussed key findings from our Power of Place report with Mark Eltringham from Workplace Insight. Peggie emphasises the importance of understanding what employees need from the office, allowing organisations to tailor the workspace to those needs. However, a one-size-fits-all approach won't work. Peggie highlights the need for customisation: “I don’t think you can embark on the process of making the best place for your employees if you haven’t thought through things like what the office is for.” By focusing on these aspects - not just occupancy - we can create more meaningful and effective work environments for employees. What value does an outstanding workplace bring in this new hybrid world? Hybrid working isn’t going anywhere. Across more than 305,000 employees surveyed by Leesman globally in the past two years, 86% stated they work in more than one location. However, the hybrid spectrum is extremely diverse in terms of work styles and office utilisation patterns. So why do you need an outstanding workplace and what are the benefits you can expect to see from one? Our data has identified the four key areas where having a great workplace brings critical organisational benefits: https://lnkd.in/exep9TB7 #HybridWorking #EmployeeExperience #PowerofPlace

What if your office could be as supportive to employees as their experience working from home? Creating an inclusive workplace isn't just a desirable goal; it's essential. With only 53.2% of employees who identify as having a disability feeling they are enabled to work productively in the office compared to 69.4% of their peers who did not identify as having a disability, there's a clear need for better support. By striving to become a disability-confident organisation, making the office accessible to everyone is paramount to an inclusive environment. You can transform your workplace culture, boost productivity, and enhance employee retention and motivation. “In a September 2023 survey by workplace research firm Leesman, noise levels were rated among the 10 most important features of the office—ranking between functioning toilets and an IT help desk. Yet only about 32% of employees are satisfied with noise levels in an average office, another Leesman survey (released this past April) found.” Forbes’s Jena McGregor shared some of Leesman’s insights from the Power of Place report, questioning why, despite the importance of noise levels to employee satisfaction, organisations struggle to manage them. This disconnect is challenging for businesses looking to optimise their workspaces for a hybrid workforce, as noise levels impact productivity in corporate offices. This is the aspect of workspaces that every organisation is trying to figure out. If we want employees to want to return to the office, then we need to provide space that offers distinct acoustic and visual privacy. How do your employees' commuting habits impact their experience and your organisation's sustainability goals? Over 42,000 employees have responded to questions regarding their daily commute, and 61.1% of them agree that they are satisfied with their daily commute, with 53.6% agreeing it has a positive impact on their overall quality of life. This leaves nearly 40% of people feeling dissatisfied with their commute – why? Employees conscious of their environmental impact might feel guilty or dissatisfied with commuting, especially if they rely on less eco-friendly modes of transport. Leesman captures detailed data on transport mode, vehicle type, distance, and satisfaction, helping understand location attractiveness, travel benefits, and carbon emissions. Our insights align with the Scope 3 Standard, the only internationally accepted method for accounting value chain emissions. Within the hybrid workforce, there’s a wide spectrum of different types of hybrid working. Only 9% of employees are in the office 5 days a week, with 86% working in a hybrid way, spending some time in the office and some of their time elsewhere. So why should your organisation invest in its workplaces and make them great? The office remains an integral part of an employee’s workplace infrastructure, but in the hybrid world, there are other places of work as well. This means that the expectations of what an office should deliver are now higher than ever before. Average workplaces lead to poor employee experience and affect performance. Workplaces therefore need to provide a seamless hybrid working experience for all users, contributing to organisational success. Based on our data, we’ve identified four key areas where great workplaces bring critical organisational benefits: https://lnkd.in/ee8q4EYS #HybridWorking #EmployeeExperience #PowerofPlace

Effective DEI policies deliver more than fairer workplaces; they can make for better businesses too. Wise’s approach to disability inclusion is intended to benefit not just employees but customers too. “Neurodiversity and disability is something very close to our hearts,” says Selina Wilson, Global Director of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion. “We’ve got a very active disability network; they’ve got different conditions, experiences and health needs, and they’re all making a difference at Wise. Another area of DEI focus is women, a notably under-represented demographic in tech. At the very top level of management, only around 30% were women, prompting conversations around new internal goals and systemic changes that could be made to encourage women to choose a career in tech. Whether it’s women, disability or another area of DEI, the final step is always to measure progress.
