Earlier this month, over 100 employees from Lactalis UK & Ireland, Lactalis Nestle Chilled Dairy and Castelli headed outdoors for our annual Sports Day. This much-loved event encourages team bonding and teamwork across our operations, while raising money for our charity partner Anthony Nolan too. Events on the action-packed schedule helping to keep our team active included: • 3-legged race • Mummy speed wrapping • Water bucket race • Tug-of-war • And so much more! You can watch below to see how the teams fared! This is the fourth year we have supported Anthony Nolan, to raise funds and help them continue their lifesaving work. This year alone, we are thrilled to have raised over £520 from donations, as well as recruiting 10 potential new lifesavers from employees joining up to the stem cell register. #lactalisukandireland #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #dairysector #teambuliding #teamwork #sportsday

Our team were delighted to welcome Emmanuel Besnier, President of Lactalis, and Executive Committee Members to the UK last week.   As part of the itinerary Emmanuel Besnier, Thierry Clement, Agnes Baudet - Barbezant, Christophe Jouin, Philippe Laborne, Alen Fontana, Philippe Tessier and CECILE COCHAIS visited ‘The Home of Award-Winning Scottish Cheddar’, at our Stranraer factory hosted by Stephen McAuley and David O'Shaughnessy – and enjoyed tours led by Ross Cunningham, Bob McCurdy & David McNally.   Key stand out moments included: * Sharing our impressive Health & Safety results, and our ongoing commitment to the highest standards * Showcasing the great success of the Eden programme pathway with University College Reaseheath – reflecting our investment in, and development of, our people and local talent * Demonstrating positive employee engagement and excellence, all supporting our commitment to the delivery of high standards on site in terms of people and results performance * Highlighting the fantastic cheese we make on site through a cheese grading session led by David McCluskey * Throwing a spotlight on The Galloway Gathering Project and how we as a business engage with Scottish families & the rural community.   Reflecting on the visit, Mike Chatters, Group Managing Director at Lactalis UK & Ireland, said: “Taking time this week to see just how much our business has transformed in recent years was so valuable, whilst also looking to the future and the huge opportunities and plans we have to innovate and grow. As a business we are committed to playing our role in Nurturing the Future of our company and the wider dairy industry.” #lactalisukandireland #lactalis #nurturingthefuture #dairyindustry #dairysector

As climate change remains a key part of our sustainability focus, it’s important that our teams at Lactalis UK & Ireland and Lactalis Nestlé Chilled Dairy understand the science behind it…and importantly, the impact. That’s why we’ve currently holding Climate Fresk workshops with employees. Climate Fresk is a business game that teaches us about changing climate system and empowers us all to take impactful action. These engaging and informative 3-hour workshops are being run internally by Lactalis managers Tracey Wilson, Catalina Mcmillan, Clare Moran and Raphael Tocanne – who are all doing an amazing job! And perhaps what’s most impressive is that they ran their first session just 24 hours after they were trained by Sarah McCann! We’d highly recommend Climate Fresk to any business keen to involve staff in climate change discussions. Back in May the social committee at our Stranraer site organised a walk from Stranraer to Portpatrick in the Scottish sunshine... with the suggestion that walkers might wish to donate towards their chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support. And donate they did, raising a further £132.58 for this incredible charity. That's a whopping £2,780.61 raised to date! We recently received a 'Thanks To You' update from Macmillan, showing the difference that this money could make to some of its services. If you'd like to support their fundraising visit> https://lnkd.in/esTaa3Gk to make a donation. Well done team, we think you're amazing! 👏 #lactalisukandireland #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #dairysector #sponsoredwalk #macmillancancersupport #fundraising #charity

We are so excited to announce the launch of Galloway Cheddar’s largest ever partnership with Scottish food trucks in order to help tackle loneliness and food insecurity in Scotland. The ‘Galloway Gathering Project’, is a nationwide campaign that brings together Scottish cheese brand Galloway and FareShare UK, the UK’s largest charity dedicated to food waste for social good. And offers a real chance for Galloway Cheddar to give back, be true to our values as a business rooted in rural Scotland, and make a difference.   During the campaign, the equivalent of 90,000 meals will be donated (via an £18,000 donation to FareShare UK), alongside 800 kg of cheese, to those in need as established food trucks across Scotland cook up special cheesy dishes using Galloway Cheddar for one off fundraising days where customers will be offered the opportunity to donate to FareShare. The Project has also teamed up with MasterChef winner and National Chef of Scotland Gary Maclean to host two events at FareShare’s regional partner sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Gary will make portions of Mac n’ Cheese using Galloway Cheddar which will then be distributed to those in need via FareShare’s charity partners. The work FareShare and its charity partners do on a daily basis is truly invaluable and we’re all proud to be playing our part in that, to make sure there is ongoing support for those facing food insecurity and loneliness at a time when the pressures of day-to-day living are being felt the hardest.  #lactalisukandireland #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #dairysector #scottishcheddar #gallowaycheddar #gallowaygathering #fareshare #charitysupport

Long-term, collaborative relationships with our key charity partners, help create real progress and lasting impact, and is something that people from across all areas of our business can get involved in. Our partners for 2023 included: FareShare UK: 2023 was our 7th consecutive year supporting FareShare 🔹We donated a total of 107.9 tonnes of food, received by 1,759 charities and community groups 🔹 In May 2023, our Scottish Cheddar brand, Galloway, partnered specifically with FareShare Scotland to deliver 10,000 hot meals to Scottish communities. As well as supplying 1.2 tonnes of cheese to make the meals, Galloway Cheddar also donated £19,500 in support of FareShare’s work across Scotland through its partners FareShare Central and South East Scotland (Cyrenians) and FareShare Glasgow & the West of Scotland (Move On). Anthony Nolan 2023 was a record year not only in terms of awareness and fundraising where we raised over £14,000 but also with more colleagues getting involved in events, raising money through a wide choice of activities organised by our social, health and wellness team, including: 🔹Through a virtual Cook Along with our development chef Rory Larkin RNutr 🔹Leisure and outdoor activities including a fun Sports Day 🔹Evening social events 🔹Staff volunteers taking part in sporting challenges We’ve raised nearly £60k for Anthony Nolan since 2021 which is enough to fund nearly 1.5k people joining the stem cell register. Supporting Prostate Cancer UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and local initiatives: Colleagues at our manufacturing sites nominated and voted for the charities they wanted to support through their fundraising activities. 🔹 Our Stranraer team chose Macmillan Cancer Support, holding a Dinner Dance, coffee mornings and a Christmas party for employees’ children raising £1,197. 🔹 In the wider Stranraer community, our colleagues also supported local food banks and day centres with food and financial assistance as well as helping to clean up the local industrial estate. 🔹 Our Lubborn team chose to support Prostate Cancer UK, focusing on raising awareness through engaging events and raising money to donate back to the charity.  🔹 Our colleagues in Lubborn are also proud to sponsor their local junior football team, Perry Street U15. #lactalisukandireland #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #foodanddrinkindustry #partners #community #charitypartners

We've got some news that's been in the making for the past 10 months.... Back in September 2023, we put out an appeal for our super creative team to get involved with a project to support Reigate & Banstead Borough Council... And working with local Greenspaces Officer, Helen West, our teams were tasked with making nest boxes, to become new homes for local birds in Redhill Memorial park opposite our new office. 🐦 As well as doing some good for the local wildlife, the team had a great time expressing their creative flair! As you can see, they had a lot of fun, building and decorating these amazing new homes! Fast-forward and we are thrilled to say our nest boxes have been installed and already look like they’re being well used. Great job team, we've heard the new residents are also very happy too! #lactalisukandireland #teambuilding #localcommunity #creativity #nestboxes #supportingwildlife

The Lactalis Group values a workforce that has a rich diversity of profiles and skills. To start with, we’re committed to gender equality and this is reflected in our structure, with 50% of management roles in our UK head office filled by women and 40% of our board members being women. We are also proud partners of the Diversity & Inclusion in Grocery programme which promotes and celebrates diversity, equality, and inclusion within the grocery industry. 🔹Through the monthly Learning Labs, we’ve broadened our knowledge 🔹Ten colleagues attended the 2023 D&I in Grocery LIVE! event where retailers and suppliers shared DE&I best practices. Our commitments start from the top of our business, so this year we will be running a new programme of DE&I training for our Board as well as our senior leadership team. Learning will include Unconscious Bias, Inclusion, Psychological Safety and Allyship. #diversity #inclusion #equality #ourpeople #lactalisuk #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #foodanddrinkindustry

Last month, the team at Lactalis UK & Ireland HQ in Redhill celebrated International Picnic Day. While the weather might not have been on our side, it’s safe to say we managed to create a delicious World Flavours Picnic spread in the office with plenty of international flair! The team enjoyed a well-earned break over a selection of delicious treats including wraps, pasties, a selection of cheese (of course!) and because it was also International Sushi Day too – sushi! #lactalisukandireland #teambuilding #teamlunch #internationalpicnicday #indoorpicnic

Reducing food waste is at the heart of our operations, playing a vital role in reducing our carbon footprint and improving resource utilisation across our supply chain. That's why we’ve developed a roadmap to tackle food waste in the UK, aiming to reduce our food waste by 25% by 2030, using the WRAP pathway model. 🎯 And we're delighted to say both Lactalis UK and Ireland and Lactalis Nestlé Chilled Dairy are on track to deliver against this goal, through our commitment to three core pillars of improvement: 1️⃣ Improving forecast accuracy by building on customer relationships and improving our data quality and analysis 2️⃣ Optimising our stock levels where required for minimum order quantities 3️⃣ Exploring other opportunities for food redistribution to support community charities In 2023, Lactalis UK and Ireland reduced total food waste to 0.01% of total volume sold, and Lactalis Nestle Chilled Dairy to 0.25% of total volume sold. 📉   By focusing our actions we’ve achieved a total food waste reduction level that’s better than the reduction target levels [total food waste reduction levels that are tracking better than our 2030 targets]. Here's just some of the steps we took. 🔹 Signing up to the Courtauld 2030 food waste target and UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 through WRAP 🔹 Built partnerships with food banks including FareShare and Bia Food 🔹 Worked closely with Company Shop to manage excess stock and use it to fight food insecurity in UK and Ireland 🔹 Any leftover stock is processed through anaerobic digestion 🔹 Operating a zero-landfill policy #lactalisukandireland #purposeinaction #dairyindustry #foodanddrinkindustry #foodwaste #progress #targets
