Earlier this month we welcomed students from the Orion Academy to our JTL training centre in Oxford to talk all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), and how an apprenticeship will unlock a career in building services engineering. Our dedicated Oxford team showed students around the electrical workshop, giving them hands-on experience with electrical circuits, and shared insights into engineering training and the workplace. The group also took the opportunity to do a site visit with Darke & Taylor Ltd to showcase a construction project on the Harwell Science & Innovation campus. We hope to see some of these young minds taking up an apprenticeship and joining the industry in the near future. #Apprenticeships #collaboration #STEMcareers

Celebrating our apprentices' successes is just one perk of what we do, and each year our #JTLNationalAwards brings the celebration to life 🏆 Three of our apprentices Chris Lintern, Dammy Ajibade and Edward Barber were all crowned winners at last month's awards ceremony, and we couldn’t be happier for them. The highlights video has captured an incredible day, watch here: https://bit.ly/3WqLbdc #JTLNationalAwards #JTLApprenticeships #BuildingServices

Yesterday's King's Speech to Parliament set out the Government's legislative agenda. This included plans for a new national skills body, Skills England, further devolution of skills powers to local leaders, as well as plans to unlock more housing and infrastructure. JTL's Chief Executive, Chris Claydon MA, commented: "The legislative agenda set out in the King's Speech today goes some way to recognising the importance of skills training routes to economic growth. "Technical skills are now business critical to achieving net zero and to delivering high quality infrastructure and housing. We cannot build safe, quality homes at pace without highly-skilled electricians and plumbers, and the building services industry is already experiencing these skills gaps. So more apprenticeships, with the necessary funding support, is more important than ever. "While of course reforms take time, it is clear that there is great opportunity for our sector over the months and years ahead. JTL looks forward to working with the new Government as it implements its ambitious agenda". #skills #apprenticeships #SkillsEngland #KingsSpeech #labourmarket

🌿 🌍 It's Net Zero Week, and we’ve been hearing from JTL colleagues about how they’re developing their green skills. Ali Bullough, Employee Development Technical Specialist, completed training on Electric Vehicle charging installation and subsequently helped to create a new course which was piloted and is now offered by Develop Training. Completion of this course leads to qualification as an Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) authorised installer. Ali says: "advancements in smart buildings and energy management represent more opportunity and career paths for installers, and it’s tangible progress towards net zero. That progress is something that JTL plays an important part in, so it’s rewarding to know I’m contributing to that aim when I turn up for work every day. We’re not just keeping pace with the net zero transition, we’re working to lead the way in meeting the needs of employers". 🌎 We are marking #NetZeroWeek and proudly sharing the contribution that our electrical and plumbing apprenticeships make to a low carbon economy. JTL apprentices learn critical skills across a range of energy efficient technologies, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, which require technical skills to install and maintain. The Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship is one of six ‘gold standard’ programmes awarded the King’s Coronation Emblem last year. Likewise, our Plumbing and Heating apprenticeship has been designed with industry to meet increasing demand for skills in renewables and green technologies. The building services engineering sector is at the forefront of the green transition, and a career in our industry will have a real impact towards a more sustainable future. We recently opened the doors to our newest training centre in Colchester, the 14th in our network. The Colchester site has repurposed what was previously a call centre into a fully equipped training hub where we will deliver electrotechnical apprenticeships; uniting local employers with apprentices who can add value to their business. JTL is stepping up to the challenge of equipping learners with essential #greenskills, and employers taking on an apprentice are helping to shape the future of the building services engineering sector. Calling Plumbing and Heating apprentices 📣 In the new academic year, there will be changes to the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician apprenticeship standard. These changes have been introduced to upskill learners; ensuring alignment with demand from industry including being adaptable to emerging technologies in support of the net zero transition, as well as help them to retain the knowledge to maintain existing plumbing and heating systems. This International Women in Engineering Day, we're shining the spotlight on JTL apprentice, Alice Rose. Currently in the second year of her Electrical Apprenticeship with JTL and her employer, Arma Connect, Alice is encouraging other women to explore engineering as a potential career path. She recently shared some advice to help inspire the next generation of female electricians: "There are so many options with a career in engineering, you can start with one thing and then branch into another that suits you... I would say to any woman considering a career in engineering, particularly an apprenticeship, go for it – you won’t look back”. If you're thinking about starting an apprenticeship, find more information on our website: https://bit.ly/4etRCDj #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay #INWED24
