It's Nice That reposted this
The View From... is a new bi-weekly column on It's Nice That where we invite international writers to report on the creative scene in their city, exploring the topics that are making an impact on the local design community. This year we have 8 correspondents; so far we’ve heard from Ray Masaki in Tokyo, Payal Khandelwal in Mumbai, Ugonna-Ora Owoh in Lagos, Moe Elhossieny in Cairo, James Chae in Seoul, Elaine Ramos in São Paulo, and Meg Farmer in LA. Next week look out for Milly Burroughs’ report from Berlin! We’ve spanned all sorts of topics: Ray told us more about the concept of heta-uma (unskillfully good) design, James explored the cultural impact of less Korean students studying abroad, Payal spotlighted Indian studios modernising heritage aesthetics, Elaine toured the city’s changing landscape through illustrated maps, Ugonna-Ora spoke to LGBTQ+ artists breaking the law by expressing themselves creatively, Meg looked at the visual legacy of 1991 film Boyz n the Hood, and Moe celebrated an influential icon of Arab graphic design. This has been a privilege to put together, I’ve learned so much from our columnists around the world, and can’t wait to share more soon. Check out the full series so far here:
