We first heard Dr. O’Sullivan on Radio 4 in May 2023 and have followed her story since. Inspirational woman 💫 Take just a few minutes out of your day to appreciate her journey and key messages regarding breaking the cycle of poverty ⭐️
Today, I told my story to the Committee for SocialDevelopment in the UN @undesasocial. part of my speech is below! "When I got pregnant at age 15, I was made homeless, and I left school, I didn't have any hope back then. My goal was to secure my welfare payment and get a council house. All I could hope for was security. For 7 years I lived as my mother did- broke, hopeless and alone. There was no other life for a girl like me. But even broken people stop at some point and ask the question- Is this it for me? I believe we are all driven to grow towards the light. I was lucky enough that when I looked for help there was an abundance of support available. It was Celtic Tiger Ireland - and there was funding to help poor people ‘do better’. At age 21, living in Dublin alone and broke, I went to a local community worker and asked him to help me. He guided me towards 2 of the most important things that have changed my life- these are therapy and education."
