Non-profit Organizations
Helping young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world.
About us
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a non-formal education and learning framework operating in more than 130 countries and territories around the world, through which young people’s achievements outside of academia are recognised and celebrated. We at The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation are the engine that drives and supports the Award’s growth, access and impact across the globe. We are not limited by boundaries and are committed to making the Award available to 1% of the youth population by 2023, which is 7.9m young people. This represents a 600% growth on current participation numbers. It is our long term ambition that every eligible young person aged 14 – 24 will have the opportunity to participate in the Award. Our vision is that 20% of them are from at risk and marginalised communities for whom the Award can be truly life-changing.

Championing youth skills 🎯 Since our journey began back in 1956, we’ve empowered millions of young people to discover and develop their skills. Whether it’s learning something new or perfecting an existing talent, young people worldwide are becoming leaders in shaping their own futures. 💡1 million + young people develop a skill through the Award each year. 🔥6 million hours of skills practice completed in 2023 alone. 🎯 78% of Award participants are more likely to participate in future skills development. Many of these skills ignite deeper passions within them, while others harness them for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. What skills have you developed lately? #WorldYouthSkillsDay The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award #WORLDREADY #youth #skills #worldyouthskillsday

A special shout-out must go to Valerie Zu Rhein, who initiated the application and two great coaches, Sabine Otholt and Stephanie Puls, for all their hard work and dedication! 👏👏👏 #StartSocial #AwardGermany #WORLDREADY

Helping Young Refugees Rebuild Their Lives Through the Award On World Refugee Day, we proudly join millions of people showing solidarity with refugees fleeing conflict and persecution. 🤝 🌍 Here at the Award, we understand the challenges young refugees face, from Syrian refugees in Jordan or working with our partner, UNICEF Europe & Central Asia , to support Ukrainian young people in neighbouring Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Award teams have provided much-needed support to young people rebuilding their lives in new communities. Jassin from Afghanistan is one of many refugees who have resettled in Finland over the last two decades with the support of the Award team there. When he first arrived at the age of 13 in 2001, Jassin recalls being a lonely young boy. However, through the Award programme, he not only found a network of friends but also grew in confidence to pursue his dreams. This transformative journey led him to represent Finland at the International Gold Event in Hong Kong in 2005 and eventually, a graduate as a Community Educator/ Youth Worker. Today, he is a proud Award volunteer, a testament to the personal growth and empowerment that the programme has instilled in him. "I feel revolutionary changes in me. There is a big difference in Jassin of 2001 and today. This all credit goes to the Award in Finland." Suvi Viljanen, the National Director of the Award in Finland, is proud of their work supporting refugees like Jassin, a cause 'very close’ to their heart. She said: " The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a powerful tool for young people with refugee backgrounds, aiding them in identity development, uncovering their strengths, and discovering their infinite potential while navigating new environments. In Finland, we have successfully utilized this method for over 20 years to support and empower our youth. Especially, the Finnish nature and adventurous journeys have played a significant role in this transformative experience." #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees
