Some of my learnings from Day 1 of the Innovation Forum in NYC: - Regenerative agriculture is dynamic and flexible in its approach and results in increased aeration, water retention, carbon sequestration, biodiversity and yield (but it might take a season to get there) - In-house sustainability teams are like the SVU (Sustainability Victims Unit) - you have to build a water tight case and anticipate counter arguments so you’re fully prepared to present your case to leadership. -Our never-run-out retailing model combined with growing large-retailer leverage seems to be a contributing factor to overproduction, which is also exacerbated by liberal customer return policies and high Returns to Vendor. - The NYS Senate may debate a bill for up to 2 hours and the Assembly can debate a bill for up to four hours (with an additional hour for explanations). The NYS legislature had over 2,000 new bills on their docket for review this year. Most timed out. - Never underestimate the power of a constituent reaching out directly to an elected official to support a bill. If any of this does not ring true for you, I’d like to know! I’m constantly striving to broaden my understanding of the textile circularity industry.
