Ever called in sick because of your period...and told the truth about it? 👀 When too unwell to work on their period due to difficult symptoms, around half of people said they never tell their manager the real reason they are off sick*. With the current taboo that still surrounds periods in so many workplaces...it's kind of predictable that: 👉 45% said they thought the issue would be trivialised 👉43% said they felt too embarrassed Building a work culture around honesty and transparency...does NOT happen over night. ❌ To get there, we need to lay the ground work when it comes to periods and create environments where people feel comfortable to talk about them openly. Freely accessible products and education for your team are absolutely essential to getting started. Let's make it happen: b2b@heygirls.co.uk https://lnkd.in/eStBSdry *All stats - study by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Nov 2023 #PeriodAwareness #PeriodEmpowerment #PeriodInclusion #PeriodEquality #WorkplaceWellness

HUGE congratulations to Molly Fenton BCAh, who has received a British Citizen Award for her services to Healthcare! 🌟 Molly's work in the period space is nothing short of absolutely INCREDIBLE - founding the Love Your Period campaign to help tackle period poverty and stigma, after campaigning for girls’ rights from just age 13. The campaign launched on social media in 2019 when Molly was 16 and is still so important today. We totally admire Molly's advocacy for creating a safe space for women and girls to know their bodies, learn what their normal is, as well as feel equal, educated, and empowered. Molly and her team's mission aligns with ours so closely, and we can't wait for the period progress we're yet to make together! ❤️ #PeriodAdvocacy #PeriodEquality #PeriodProgress #EndPeriodPoverty

Founder of The Love Your Period Campaign. Multi-award-winning women’s health activist with an inoperable brain tumour.

Yesterday I recieved a British Citizen Award for services to Healthcare. I was the youngest recipient, and the only from Wales. Out of the 27 medalists, collectively we’d helped over 88,000 people, and had over 400 years of service - a lot of that voluntary. The British Citizens Award is the highest civil acalade available, and on it’s 10th anniversary 22 year old Molly got to join the big guns. We are fully awarded off merit - “no job title or money come into this” was quoted. The people’s honours. There are only 500 medal holders. I started Love Your Period after seeing how stigma and a lack of education almost took my life. I also promised myself that I would do good with this brain tumour. It was almost a selfish task. But it’s turned into a worldwide, multi award winning social action project. We are not self made - this is for everyone. Everyone here who encourages me. Those I more closely work with who are always there to help my brain work too, selflessly. My LYP team who work so hard. Fellow activists. Fellow brain tumour patients. My friends - current and those we’ve lost - who I wouldn’t campaign without. This is just the beginning - there’s a long way to go. Young women are dying, getting late diagnosis and their symptoms are dismissed, or they ignore them. Brain tumour survival rates are less than 12% over 5 years. Periods are still keeping girls out of education. Health anxiety is rising and controlling many lives. Including my own to be honest. Back to work now. But what an unforgettable day.

From women not being “allowed” to participate in the Olympics at all, we've sure come a LONG way. For the first time in history, a 50/50 male and female athlete representation has been reached at this years Paris Olympics. We love to see this milestone for gender equality finally come into play. Yet we can't help but wonder why the topic of periods is so slow to gain ground, when two-thirds of elite-female athletes preparing for Olympic and Paralympic Games perceive that their menstrual cycle affects their performance*. Back at Rio 2016, what should have been any old normal conversation, was actually deemed a groundbreaking moment when swimmer Fu Yuanhui openly said: "Actually, my period started yesterday evening. That's why I feel very weak and tired, but this is not an excuse. At the end of the day, I simply did not swim very well." Yuanhui's plain candidness has since encouraged other athletes to talk about their experiences and we hope to hear lots more noise about periods at this year's games. Collectively, there's so much more we can do to break the stigma that still surrounds periods and normalise conversations about it - and it starts outside of elite sport. So let's talk about it: b2b@heygirls.co.uk *McNamara A, Harris R, Minahan 'That time of the month for the biggest event of your career!' Right. ‘Toxic tampons’. Let’s talk about it. Please stay for this one. We (the team at Love Your Period) aren’t too happy. Mainly with other period organisations and trusted places people rely on. It’s hard to not have seen the news this week about ‘toxic tampons’ - arsenic, metals etc. Those headlines looked big, we clicked and skimmed over the articles, and then shared them further. We’ve had so many DMs, tags and comments asking us to share. We haven’t - we wanted to delve deeper first. And we are very glad we waited. Whilst we don’t want anything like this in our products, or any item for that matter, this was blown way out of proportion by multiple parties ending in scaremongering. The main concern for us here is just two months ago I was part of an article published UK wide with Julie Cornish Liz O’Riordan and Diane Danzebrink (written by Jenny Rees) where I touched upon the influencers in the women’s health space, as well as the marketing opportunities identifying these massive gaps in women’s health due to our lack of conversation and education. We are so uniformed about our bodies and periods that we are in a mess. There was such widespread panic and all people who trust US (period orgs) have been let down. We applaud those who have come forward and apologised, and urge that others set the record straight too. So if you see any ‘ultra clean’ tampons…remember this. Professionals (mainly period people in this case): do better. Be better. Safeguard your audience. Don’t jump on it for the social media reach - that is exactly what has happened here. Shared Love Your Period’s post below summing things up perfectly and explaining what is going on.
