Are you curious about the allocation of healthcare budgets in India, the world’s most populous country? See the latest Healthcare Business International infographic! Since 2014-15, India’s public healthcare expenditure has increased, yet only about 1.2% of GDP is allocated to healthcare. This highlights the need for a more robust funding strategy. Historically, India has had high out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) on healthcare. While this has been declining, most people still pay for healthcare out of their own pockets. Additionally, there’s a notable increase in private health insurance expenditures. A recent LSE blog reveals a correlation between private insurance adoption in wealthier states and the decline in OOPE.
