Join us for the online event “Language, Technology, Power”, as part of the ongoing event series “Seeing Like a Fund”. Taking place on 29 August, 15:00-17:00 CEST, the event brings together three artists from the Fund’s network to share their experiences and reflections on issues surrounding language and technology in relation to access and sustainable artistic networks. Translator Wirunwan Victoria Pitaktong, photographer Sofiane Bakouri, and visual artist Alexis Villanueva Niebles will come together to reflect on how the dominance of the English language in the art and funding worlds affects artists' opportunities, and how cross-language communication technologies prioritize European languages, raising concerns about excluding artists who speak so-called "low-resource languages". Key questions the event will consider include: Are artists who aren’t fluent in English being further excluded from opportunities because of these technological gaps? How do practitioners relying on these technologies balance verbal and written communication? And, more practically, how can the Prince Claus Fund increase accessibility of its funding, and especially in its work of building connections for artists who are not comfortable working in English? Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East Bank is the UK’s newest cultural quarter. As part of the wider ambition to leave a lasting and positive benefit to the communities that hosted the Olympic Games in 2012, it is a unique collaboration between cultural institutions, world-leading universities, local and global design talent, and the people of East London. We are proud to be part of this legacy. On a slender site along Stratford Waterfront will be four new buildings: Sadler's Wells East, a new venue for the London dance venue with theatre, rehearsal and community spaces; BBC Music Studios, a new base for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and studios for contemporary music; a new vertical campus for UAL’s London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London unifying six former sites under one roof and V&A East Museum, a new home to share its art collections, performance and touring exhibitions. Nearby within the landscape of the park are a new campus for UCL - UCL East - and a further venue for the V&A, the V&A Storehouse which will house the museum’s archives. To mark the opening of East Bank, Allies and Morrison has curated a new exhibition. A ‘designers’ table’ features models, drawings, material samples and archival imagery from the architects and designers who have authored East Bank’s different buildings and spaces. This is currently being displayed in Buro Happold’s London Featherstone building until 24th August. Emily McDonald, UK Market Leader/Partner, Buro Happold says “We are delighted to host this fabulous exhibit within our offices, a testament to the incredible collective team that has been part of regenerating this area of East London and seeing this suite of fabulous buildings come into being. It was a nice moment to pause and reflect with some of the Buro Happold Stratford Waterfront team and be reminded of all that has been achieved to date.” Find out more about our project work here: Sadler’s Wells: https://lnkd.in/e9__7Pz4 BBC Studios: https://lnkd.in/etQHHBjH London College of Fashion: https://lnkd.in/ejN3YKS5 V&A: https://lnkd.in/eE4dxXC2 UCL: https://lnkd.in/eFRcV8-Z Cultural and education partners: Mayor of London, UAL’s London College of Fashion, BBC, Victoria and Albert Museum, Sadler’s Wells, UCL.
