Work experience week has been a blast! 🚿 We loved hosting 28 students from eight local schools this week, and showing them the wide range of opportunities that an airport can offer. From finance to firefighting, there's something for everyone here! 👩🚒👨💼👮♀️👨🔧 It's so important to inspire young people to consider careers in STEM, and with over 100 London Gatwick colleagues taking the time to help out across the week, it shows how passionate we are to give something back to the community and support local students 💙 We hope that by offering behind the scenes tours, workplace and life skills sessions and panel discussions, we can demonstrate just how exciting and fulfilling a career at London Gatwick can be. One of our biggest and most important projects is reaching net zero for our emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030. Work is well underway. While some projects are easy to see, like replacing over 5000 streetlights with LEDs, plenty of work goes unseen. Our Head of Engineering, Steve Kelso, details our plans, challenges and successes to date in an interview in House Magazine. He also talks about how the airport is playing a crucial role supporting others on campus, including airlines, to reduce their emissions (Scope 3). https://gatwk.uk/3LlnT2k #London #Gatwick #Airport #Sustainability

London Gatwick’s operation will be net-zero in just six years. Here’s how.

As a signee of the the Armed Forces Covenant, London Gatwick proudly supports our military community, and are thrilled to have so many ex-forces colleagues around our airport. ✈ Skills learned in the military translate seamlessly into the operations of a business as busy as ours. We wanted to share three of these colleagues with you, to demonstrate some of the varied career backgrounds of our people, and where it can take you at London Gatwick. ⬇️ Andy served for 20 years in the RAF as an air traffic controller at several UK military airfields. He was a Squadron Commander at the London Air Traffic Control Centre; Director of Operations at the Afghanistan Regional Air Movements Coordination Centre and the Senior Air Traffic Control Officer at RAF Brize Norton. Andy is now our Head of Noise and Airspace Strategy where he is using all of that knowledge and experience to help to deliver quicker, quieter and cleaner journeys through airspace improvements. 🛫 Mark served for 30 years in the Regular Army in the Royal Artillery, commissioned from the ranks and leaving as a Gunner Major. He subsequently joined the Army Reserve unit serving as an Officer Commanding a Reservist Army Air Corps Squadron in Suffolk. He retired fully from the Army after 39 years service last year. However, he continues to prioritise safety and security, as he uses nearly 40 years of skills as one of our airport Security Team Leaders. 👮♂️ Pete spent over 7 years in the Royal Navy, in various technical roles such as as a Leading Operator Mechanic. The skills he gained in leadership and handling whatever crisis arose have made him the perfect fit to be our Senior Passenger Operations Manager and keep our terminals running every day - and if the adverts are true, as an RN mechanic, we're sure he could also fix a board, a bike, a car, or learn to fix an A320 passenger plane... if the need arises 🔧 #London #Gatwick #Airport #ArmedForcesDay2024 #ArmedForcesDay #SaluteOurForces

Chief Executive Officer at London Gatwick ✈️

It was brilliant to have 180 leaders from across the VINCI Concessions global business visit London for their three-day annual global leadership conference last week. It was great to share learnings and hear about so many successful business growth stories from across the VINCI infrastructure network, which includes over 70 airports internationally and 4300km of highways in 10 countries. London Gatwick is the largest and busiest airport in the VINCI portfolio, and it was a particular delight to host the delegation for a day at the airport so that they could all meet our fantastic team of skilled colleagues and explore the investments and improvements we have made for passengers in terms of service and experience. The visit coincided with the official opening of our fully refurbished North Terminal departure lounge which you can see in one of the photos below. I was joined by CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, Nicolas Notebaert plus colleagues closely involved in the delivery of this huge project. Thank you to everyone who supported these fantastic events, and to all the delegates for coming!
