⭐️⭐️How I selected a shortlist for a contract test role and some tips on standing out!!! ⭐️ ⭐️ Yesterday I did a post about a role I advertised last week that received hundreds of applicants within hours and I thought I’d share some insight as to the application shortlist process on my end and the main tips to make candidates stand out… Candidate#1: sent a really personable messages months ago. Outlined what they were looking for, minimum rate, availability, tech and respected my time. Was then the first one to pop up when advertised Candidate #2: Had a commented on my post, and 2 people in my network popped up and could vouch for their strong ability and likability Candidate #3: I met at a networking event 3 years ago, they have been on my radar since and popped up when they saw the post Candidate #4: I’d worked with this candidate previously and had fantastic reviews, and has had some great recommendations TIPS: ✅ Network - THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT thing any contractor can do. You need to be active in your network, not burn bridges, be accommodating. ✅ Remember you are business - Market yourself in the right way, be a bit more active in the test scene, post more on LinkedIn, map out the market, connect with relevant recruiters (I’m happy to share a list of names) ✅ Help others (even when you’re in work) - refferals, recommendations, tag them in job posts. ‘I scratch your back, you scratch mine’ etc. ✅Compromise - if there’s a list of 10 non negotiable demands, there’ll be other people out there that are a lot more flexible. Understand your non-negotiables (remoteness etc.) and be as flexible as you can I hope this helps in some way!!! G.Digital | G&T (girls and tech!)

Yes, the tech skills matter, but the softer skills matter more 👇 Of course, when recruiting technical roles there’s a basic tech skill set that needs to be met. But 9/10 when I get to the bottom of a what a business needs, these can be flexed. Ultimately, what they need (and the hardest part) is finding someone with the right softer skills; communication, culture, attitude etc etc. We’ve spent a lot of time working in partnership with this client and hiring manager and we just get it with them.
