Capita Fire and Rescue firefighters at RAF Valley welcomed His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales earlier this week, showcasing how Capita supports the RAF in providing a high-performing fire and rescue service for Defence. As well as meeting the crew, Prince William was given a demonstration of the fire appliance and took part in a simulated aircraft incident, responding to the crash alarm. He was tasked with extinguishing a fire on the practice crash site, experiencing first-hand how the new appliances incorporate innovative technology to enhance safety. Station Manager Steve Pritchard, RAF Valley, said: “The Prince was extremely interested in Capita and how the contract has supported the RAF. He spent a lot of time talking to the crew, finding out where they were all from and how long they had been at RAF Valley. It was a pleasure to host him." #CreatingBetter

The role of an Incident Commander in Fire and Rescue Services is crucial in managing emergencies and ensuring the safety of both the public and their fellow firefighters. Incident Commanders must act quickly to assess the situation and prioritise the response efforts accordingly. As Incident Commanders carry a high degree of responsibility, the training and qualifications required to perform this role must be equally rigorous, which is why The Fire Service College have developed a new course to allow the achievement of the SFJ Awards Level 4 Award in Designing and Delivering Incident Command Training. This new Level 4 Award replaces the previous Level 5 qualification and is designed to enable Fire and Rescue Services to deliver training more efficiently and effectively, whilst making it more relevant and achievable for fire and rescue staff. It has been developed in collaboration with sector experts and the duration for this course has reduced from the previous two weeks to one.
